what is the most important year?
I posed this question at the office today, and I got a few good answers. I personally think that 1993 is one of the biggest years for our hobby. It had the introduction of the first ever high end product and revolutionized how people viewed cards, I think. So I ask all of you, what was most important years in baseball card history? If you want to list them, that's cool too. Also I am going for modern era with this, vintage is in a class all of its own.
My list:
1. 1993
2. 2001
3. 2005
4. 1989

1981 Introduction of Fleer and Donruss as competition for Topps. Positive Influence--More collecting options and drove innovation in design, especially when Upper Deck and Score arrived later and colour photography etc.. on the back introduced. Negative--Led to the mass produce era and subsequent crash of market for those in the business.

Id have to agree on 1989 also with the intro of Upper Deck. Baseball card collecting was never the same after UD came along. Great lists above though! Nice point rmpaq5 made about 81 donruss and fleer. But fleer had sets in the 50's didnt they? Also bowman had sets in the 50's.
