Since I don't collect a ton of vintage (just the iconic cards) and don't know a ton about spotting fakes, I buy authenticated stuff even if I have to pay a bit more for roughly the same condition. If I were going to buy exclusively vintage, I would probably learn more about it but buying online makes it tough to make an educated guess most of the time.
