When evaluating just how great Gretzky was you have to compare him to his peers. In his era (the 80's) he was head and shoulders above everyone else with the exception of Lemieux IMO. Given the same supporting cast and a healthier body, I have no doubt Lemieux would have challenged Gretzky's single season scoring record and his career points record.
