I have 3 cards that have a grade of BGS 9 with subgrades of 10, 9,9,9.5. I would think that the final grade would be BGS 9.5 How are the final grades determined?

It's not a mere average. Here's a link of how the Grades are determined:

You can get a 9.5 in various ways. You have to have at least (3) 9.5's and (1) 9. There is an exception, however. IF you have (3) 10's and an 8.5 surface, you will also get a 9.5.
