Wade Miley Collection
Hi. I am new to Beckett Forums.
Over the last few months, I have been collecting Wade Miley cards, in hope of him catching ROY. This never happened. I still feel that he is a promising player that will only improve his numbers year over year. I have close to 200 cards at present, including Printing Plates, Auto's, Refractors, XFractors, Atomic Refractors, etc. Should I hold on to these cards, is it worth sending any to BGS for grading? If I should sell, should I sell individually, or in bulk? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Richard |

RE: Wade Miley Collection
There are some SuperCollectors who get everything graded. I think you should get the more high-end cards, like autos, mems, plates, and rare parallels, graded if you get anything graded. Don't bother getting the base cards graded. It sounds like your collection is pretty nice, so be sure to get shipping insurance.

RE: Wade Miley Collection
Thanks for the advice. I guess I should have mentioned the reason grading was holding me back, and not sure if I should hold onto the cards or not.
The going $ for his cards...why is it that players like George Springer and Bunba Starling have cards on eBay for tons of cash, but Miley is sitting between $10-$40 for a refractor /50, /25 or /5. Is his card value ever going to increase...to the like of Harper even? Thanks for any help! (11-16-2012 06:27 PM)nyyankeesfan28 Wrote: There are some SuperCollectors who get everything graded. If you're looking to collect Miley for your own personal collection I don't think getting his stuff for cheap is a bad thing. But if you're looking at your collection as an investment, I wouldn't be surprised if it barely reaches the price you think it'll be worth. Hype is pretty much the only thing really deciding what a card is worth. That's also pretty much why Harper got the ROY nod over Miley. And as far as Miley's hype goes, this pic says it all.

Ha, that's sad (the picture)
Thanks for the reply. I don't disagree with you, I just can't understand why there has been no hype all season. |

RE: Wade Miley Collection
There hasn't been hype because Harper took all the hype in the NL. Plus everyone got excited about the Nationals and not so many got excited about the D-Backs. His cards will probably never reach the peak of Harper's card prices. If you just like Wade Miley, then keep buying while the prices seem low for your player collection of him.

Anyway a lot factors are probably to blame for him getting overlooked. From this Yankees fan's perspective it looked like Miley was already overshadowed in his organization since Bauer and Bradley were getting most of the attention. Plus as far as rookies go there's no denying that Harper was the one everyone was looking at and eventually betting on to be the ROY (again, whoever has the most hype and can deliver on it will win). And it probably didn't help Miley's hype when the D-Backs kinda fell into obscurity as the season progressed. I honestly didn't watch enough D-Backs games to comment on their on-field performance, but off the field all of the headlines regarding the NL West were about the Dodgers and Giants. The Dodgers with their huge financial boost, the Hanley trade, the Victorino trade, the Punto trade etc... and the Giants with the Pence trade, Melky's suspension as well as their smooth ride into the postseason. By the time the D-Backs got eliminated (and that also might've factored into the ROY voting) you could've said that Miley deserves the ROY over Harper, well actually you can still say it now, but most of the narrative regarding the NL ROY was basically "Miley might be the most deserving, but Harper's got too much hype to not be the ROY" and that's as far as Miley's hype went. Now it's too early to tell if Miley's cards will ever see their prices rise (although they might if he becomes the next Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee and becomes sought after by major markets like NY, CHI, BOS & LA) but I don't see his cards ever selling as high as Harper's are, at least not now. ![]() ![]() Dellin Betances & Francisco Cervelli Collector |
