2012 Bowman Chrome 5 Case Break and Contest Thread [CONTESTS CLOSED]

RE: 2012 Bowman Chrome 5 Case Break and Contest Thread [CONTESTS CLOSED]
Case #3, Box #10

Jhonny Peralta Blue Refractor /250
Jayson Werth Purple Refractor /199
John Hellweg Refractor Auto 206/500

Grade: D
Comments: This is my first box with a parallel auto that did not contain two autos. So either my presumed patterning is incorrect (i.e., 4 parallel autos per case, each in a two-auto box) or I was shorted a base auto. Terrible parallel auto, whatever the situation. The serial number is still pretty low relative to most of our guesses. But very likely there are 8 more parallel autos in the break.

Case #3, Box #11

Estarlin Martinez Blue Refractor /250
Wilfredo Tovar Purple Refractor /199
Ian Kennedy Gold Refractor /50
Frazier Hall Auto
James Paxton Bowman Black Auto Redemption

Grade: B
Comments: I was hoping to pull a Bowman Black. This isn’t the subject I was hoping for, though.

Case #3, Box #12

Drew Smyly Blue Refractor /250
Boss Moanaroa Auto

Grade: D-
Comments: I like Drew Smyly, but I’m sure glad this wasn’t the only box I opened.

Case #3 Summary

Grade: C-
Comments: There was plenty to like in this case, but none of the hits were big enough to make up for the typical, weak box. The Bowman Black auto was of the wrong subject, as was the Red Refractor, and the Blue Refractor Auto. The other parallel autos were nothing to write home about either. If this was my only case, I’d have felt like my $710 was poorly spent. We finish the third case with #206 as the highest auto serial number so far.

Case #4, Box #1

Julio Moran Blue Refractor /250
Dee Gordon Purple Refractor /199
Nomar Mazara Auto

Grade: D+
Comments: Mazara is a pretty solid base pull.

Case #4, Box #2

Theo Bowe Blue Refractor /250
Jose Bautista Purple Refractor /199
Nick Castellanos Auto
Ronald Guzman Purple Refractor Auto 01/10

Grade: A+
Comments: Wow. I think I like this pull even better than the Bryce Harper. Maybe a $200 card. I’m a sucker for #1 numbered cards.

Case #4, Box #3

Brad Peacock Blue Refractor /250
Jose Campos Auto

Grade: D
Comments: Kinda figured.

Case #4, Box #4

Billy Butler Blue Refractor /250
Michael Pineda Purple Refractor /199
Christian Villanueva Refractor Auto 069/500

Grade: D
Comments: Another refractor auto all by itself, and another serial number way under all our picks. I’ve decided that if everyone is OVER the highest serial number instead of calling the contest dead I will use the pitch count tiebreak.

Case #4, Box #5

Ryan Braun Blue Refractor /250
Lucas Duda Purple Refractor /199
Will Middlebrooks Gold Refractor /50
Billy Hamilton Auto
James Paxton Refractor Auto Redemption

Grade: A
Comments: Definitely getting my share of Billy Hamilton.

Jayson Werth Blue Refractor /250
Trevor Bauer Purple Refractor /199
Liam Hendriks Gold Refractor /50
Trevor May Auto
Migueal Cabrera/Nick Castellanos Dual Auto /25

Grade: A+
Comments: Great timing for a Miguel Cabrera auto pull. This case is shaping up really nicely.

Case #4, Box #7

Daniel Santana Blue Refractor /250
Tyler Massey Purple Refractor /199
Shawon Dunston Jr. Auto

Grade: D
Comments: Possible I’ll finish this break tonight. Busting like a machine.

You might get close to a James Paxton redemption rainbow...

Case #4, Box #8

Tommy Hanson Blue Refractor /250
Daniel Hudson Purple Refractor /199
Jorge Soler Auto

Grade: A
Comments: Just what I was hoping for. A little surface scratch, but otherwise a terrific specimen.

LOL, yes, including the black part of the rainbow.
Case #4, Box #9

Mat Latos Blue Refractor /250
Kenny Faulk Orange Refractor /25
Marcell Ozuna Auto 9
Jose Campos Blue Refractor Auto 138/150

Grade: A
Comments: Very nice parallel auto. Serial number is low, of course.

Case #4, Box #10

Michael Early Blue Refractor /250
Jonathan Singleton Auto
Pratt Maynard Refractor Auto 108/500

Grade: C
Comments: Not my dream two-auto box, but the Singleton base is nice. Serial numbers still coming in low.

Case #4, Box #11

Hanley Ramirez Blue Refractor /250
Mike Trout Purple Refractor /199
Scooter Gennett Auto
Jeremy Nowak Prospect Variation

Grade: C
Comments: The Trout Purple and Nowak variation help make up for the Gennett auto.

Case #4, Box #12

Brett Lawrie Blue Refractor /250
Lane Adams Purple Refractor /199
Ubaldo Jimenez Cyan Plate /1
Ravel Santana Auto

Grade: C-
Comments: The plate is probably not worth much, but it’s always fun to find them.

Case #4 Summary

Grade: A
Comments: Really terrific case, with autos by Hamilton & Soler, a blue auto, a purple auto, and a Cabrera/Castellanos dual. Further, the boxes without huge hits tended to have decent color or base autos. The highest serial number auto is still lower than everyone’s guess. There should be 4-5 chances to change that in the final case.

Case #5, Box #1

Carlos Ruiz Blue Refractor /250
Matt Dean Purple Refractor /199
John Axford Gold Refractor /50
Avisail Garcia Auto
Josh Rutledge Orange Refractor Auto /25

Grade: A+
Comments: Great start to the first box. Probably the best box of the case, but maybe I’ll sneak in another hit before I’m done. Really glad to get Garcia; I think there are just six autos I have not yet seen.

Case #5, Box #2

Montreal Robertson Blue Refractor /250
Jesus Solorzano Purple Refractor /199
Trevor May Auto

Grade: D
Comments: Jesus and Montreal.

Case #5, Box #3

Tim Lincecum Blue Refractor /250
Quintin Berry Purple Refractor /199
Felix Sterling Auto

Grade: D
Comments: The photo of Berry may be the best picture in the set.

Case #5, Box #4

Shane Victorino Blue Refractor /250
Estarlin Martinez Orange Refractor /25
Nomar Mazara Auto
Tyler Skaggs Refractor Auto 003/500

Grade: B
Comments: Two solid autos. Hilarious serial numbering. I must have a shipment from near the beginning of the print run.

Case #5, Box #5

J. J. Hardy Blue Refractor /250
Wei-Yin Chen Purple Refractor /199
Jonathan Singleton Auto

Grade: C
Comments: I like the Purple Chen RC.

Case #5, Box #6

Gregory Polanco Blue Refractor /250
Matt Cain Purple Refractor /199
Jesus Montero Orange Refractor /25
Adam Conley Refractor Auto 265/500

Grade: C
Comments: There we go – after 30 boxes, finally a numbered auto in the range predicted by our contestants. Natejeffries predicted a highest serial number of 258, so he’s currently in the lead. With six boxes left, it’s no slam dunk; another refractor auto could shake things up completely. But he’s safe with any colored auto or base auto.

Case #5, Box #7

Torii Hunter Blue Refractor /250
Ervin Santana Purple Refractor /199
Tony Cingrani Auto

Grade: D
Comments: natejeffries still in the lead.

Case #5, Box #8

Will Lamb Blue Refractor /250
Ravel Santana Auto

Grade: F+
Comments: Ouch.

Case #5, Box #9

John Hellweg Blue Refractor /250
Carlos Gonzalez Purple Refractor /199
Tyler Austin Auto

Grade: C
Comments: Three more boxes!

Case #5, Box #10

Todd Helton Blue Refractor /250
Ichiro Purple Refractor /199
Junior Lake Gold Refractor /50
Scooter Gennett Auto
Josh Rutledge Refractor Auto 210/500

Grade: C
Comments: Not the parallel auto I was hoping for, but some decent color. Natejeffries dodged a bullet here, with a refractor auto showing another low serial number.

Case #5, Box #11

Hunter Pence Blue Refractor /250
Cliff Lee Gold Refractor /50
Adam Conley Auto

Grade: D
Comments: Maybe one last parallel auto?
