Trimmed Cards Getting Graded
It seems that ive been seeing this alot lately and it is a little discouraging. I understand mistakes can happen with certain aspects of grading but if a card is trimmed, it should be pretty obvious when measuring the card. Here is the latest example that has been brought to my attention. Notice on the 9.5 how the side that has been trimmed is the front right side, back left side. the untrimmed side has the standard chipping of this set but the trimmed side is clean. Look at both pictures of the graded and non graded card and its easy to see from the naked eye that the whole back left side is closer to the edge. At first I thought it may just be off center, but the other side lines up. What are your thoughts?

RE: Trimmed Cards Getting Graded
Not even the same card,,,, one minute of looking at EVERY single edge of both and they are in no way the same item,,,,, they'd have had to trim the entire card both sides & top + bottom as every edge of that raw card has issues,,,,, my belief is 2 totally different cards,,,,
My opinion of course,,, Jeff ,,, SUGGESTIONS SUBMIT IT HERE !! Mod Team member |

RE: Trimmed Cards Getting Graded
they are 2 different cards, its an example to show how the cards are centered the same but one side is off.

You are right in my opinion this graded card looks to be very trimmed. I looked at the one I have and it is just about identical to the ungraded card. I guess I have not ever really noticed any others like that but I have not really looked for them ether. On the same note I sent in 3 93 SP Jeter Rookies to psa for grading a about a year ago that I had opened way back when and they all came back noting they were trimmed when I know they weren't so anyway I contacted PSA and they actually said they could have made a mistake and gave me a credit for one of the gradings and said send them back on your next submission and they would look at them again so I did about two months ago and got all three of them back as trimmed again! this time no such luck on the credit but what a pain in the but. I wonder if they just have my name down as having submitted 93 SP Jeters before as altered and they were not even looked at again Because like I said I had opened these myself back in 93 and they were still in a 5,000 box from the case of Base that I opened at the time. RE: Trimmed Cards Getting Graded
I'd need it in front of me,,,,, quite honestly from nearly 2 decades of slabbing with PSA& BGS I find no scan truly shows a cards real condition,,,, no matter the scanner,,,, cannot clearly see if its shaved or if that card is a manufacturer produced cut,,,,, mis-cuts are a part of this hobby from time immemorial,,,, not making excuses just talking from the perspective of someone who doesn't see conspiracies until I see patterns from the same sources,,,,,,
From experience,,,,7-20 seconds,,,, that's all a TPG sees an item,,,, mistake sometimes occur,,, slab owner can see any top TPG and have it reviewed if they have an issue with it,,,, I know BGS honors their grades and will compensate on mistakes,,,, Gradings like everything else in this life-- nothings perfect,,,, key is keeping mistakes to a minimum,,,,, JEFF SUGGESTIONS SUBMIT IT HERE !! RE: Trimmed Cards Getting Graded
the same seller that has the trimmed silky smooth also bought another jordan insert 48/100 from a member on another forum im on. the memeber bought the card ungraded and noticed it had a dinged corner but wanted it graded for his collection. it came back an 8.5 with the corners getting an 8. He sold it to upgrade his collection. now the seller with the alleged trimmed silky smooth has the 48/100 but it is graded bgs 9.5 and with a 9 sub on the corners, the card appears to be trimmed. i understand its hard to see condition from scans, but i think its pretty easy to see on the silky smooth that the space is off on one side of the card, they both line up pretty close on one side, but the other is far off.
i understand beckett will, somewhat, make up for their mistakes, but what i have a problem with is a card will be graded, a person can take the card out of the slab, trim it down, send it in and bgs will posibbly grade it gem mint. then an unsuspecting buyer will pay a few thousand dollars for an altered card. i know beckett would not give the new owner of the altered card that made it through grading their money back. this is something that is serious and collectors need to be made aware of it, and i feel beckett would want to know about it if they want there grading business to remain trusted. FYI your statement is patently false ,,,, I have and can speak from personal experience BGS will refund in full a buyers cost who can show them the issues and have it shown a trimmed card made it thru their grading process,,,,, ( Beckett will take the card back of course and that person wont own it any longer ),,,,, I know this from personal experience having received refunds myself and having see others get checks back for serious mistakes or grading errors,,,, I also know PSA honorx its grading process as well,,,, Jeff SUGGESTIONS SUBMIT IT HERE !! RE: Trimmed Cards Getting Graded
so if someone bought a graded card off ebay for $4K and it has been trimmed, beckett will refund the $4k to the new owner and will take the card and destroy it? who is the contact for this process.
