If I remember correctly, I think the one up top is a Grey Back and the bottom one a White Back.
Just variations is basically all it is, but I think the Greys may be worth $.50 more or something small.

The common Sp's go by the numbers, 426-500 and 586-720 are all common sp's, then there are the Variation sp's that go by the coloring combinations on the front of the card, or by an intentional error on the back.
and yes, you are right about the darker back, The short printed cards have darker backs than the non-SP cards.
