So much more major kudos to Mr. Talger! My 1st post was only part of the total story. What actually happened after I won the contest was a bit more odd. Wayne sent me the card, BUT it hadn't arrived after almost 2 weeks. Wayne sent me another one and I promised that I'd send that one back if I ever got the first card that he mailed (w/out DC or any other tracking #). I got the 1st card a few days after the replacement came and he told me to keep the one I liked most and send back the other one. The one I kept (posted here) was the second card sent but 1st one I received. Even though it is missing so much of the top left corner, I liked it more in general. Wayne is a total class act and one of the TOP traders on this site!!! He will ALWAYS be firmly stuck in my 'Top-5 Traders List'! My daughter and some of her middle school friends volunteered to bring their band instruments and play some music for holiday shoppers. As they went through the standard carols, I wandered over tho the magazine rack and picked up a random Beckett publication. It was even for one of the "secondary" sports I collect. Well, I flipped through it looking at pictures, primarily. When the kids were taking a break, and I offered to buy them some hot chocolate. I set the magazine down and headed over. When I got back with refreshments, the girls were going crazy and pointing at the magazine saying, "Is that you? Did you write this?" Low and behold, a comment I had made on an article online made it into the magazine with my name and city. I told the girls, "Yes, that is me." They thought it was pretty cool, especially my daughter, and so did I. If these kids had not volunteered to entertain shoppers that day, there is zero chance I would have come across that issue. Instead, I bought a copy and still have it. What a great story Jonathan! (07-29-2012 08:12 PM)zeprock Wrote: This site is very important to me. I spend a lot of my downtime with my cards and I have them all loaded on this site. Almost 225,000 PC cards and almost 43,000 cards up for trade. I enjoy the forums and love trading. I work two jobs but don't make a substantial income and have very little to spend on cards but after over 40 years of collecting I've built up a pretty good inventory for trading purposes and have been able to add many new cards to my collection. Last year finances were especially tough and it was looking like I would have to let my Beckett subscription expire after eight years and I was devastated thinking I wouldn't have access to all the cards I'd loaded into the ORG. However last year, Beckett gave away prizes each day of the month of July (for customer appreciation) and one of the prizes was a free year's subscription. I hoped and hoped that if I could win a prize, that would be the one I'd win. I'd all but given up hope when that's exactly what I won on the very last day of the contest. It bought me another year of happiness. That's my best Beckett experience so far. That's a lil' bit of info I didn't know about you zeprock. I'm really glad you won something too (I did know about that). I won a GC to the Marketplace that I spent on my 1st DeAngelo Williams (NFL Panthers) AU card. I have an AU'd 8x10, but really wanted an AU card to go w/ it. Anyway, this brings up another story I wanted to share earlier. I thought 2 great stories were enough for me to post BUT this one is the greatest of all b/c of the sheer volume of caring, goodwill & concern. Zeprock and I had a trade (one of the many we've made) that went odd in late December 2010. The cards he sent ended up in 'no-mans land' at a sorting facility very close to my house. Luckily he sent them with a DC #. He always ships that way and I always request DC. *This is the best example EVER for why everyone should use DC when shipping cards.* He shipped the day before X-mas (as did I), but the cards still hadn't arrived 2 weeks later. Since he shipped w/ DC#, we were able to track it down. It last stopped in the sort facility in Greensboro, NC. That is very close to my house. We both spent 2 months trying to get the USPS to find the package. Finally, they found it and it was delivered to me in March of 2011. If there had been no DC#, we wouldn't have been able to tell the USPS what to look for AND there is a really good chance that it would have never been found. What I later found out was that it was on an electronic conveyor belt and slipped off of that. It basically sat on the floor of the sort facility for nearly 2 months. I still thank him for staying on top of that for so long to make sure that I eventually got my cards. He was more vigilant than I was about finding that package and I am forever grateful to him for never giving up. I knew he had shipped the cards and that they got lost in the mail. I was to the point of being willing to accept that the USPS let me down for the 1st time. He was not willing to do that and went to greater lengths than me, to make sure I got my cards. I will NEVER forget that!!! I forgot to mention that 'zeprock' is also in my "Top-5 All-time Traders" list. The others would be 'thegreat48' and 'cardboardfan'. That is only 4 but, there are several other members that are tied for the #5 slot. Always looking for: Ozzie Smith/Stan Musial/Lou Brock/STL Cardinals, NFL-CAR/GB/NE and NASCAR-Jimmie Johnson/Mark Martin

RE: Positivity Movement 2012
HeyFitzy did a good thing for ryanmo5. Details in this thread:
http://www.beckett.com/forums/thread-1504010.html Summary; ryanmo5 was bidding on a card until it got to be too high. Fitzy stepped up and won it for him. I see dbroockerd doing good things for the beckett board. He has a thread going similar to your positivity one. A gift thread registry. It has the best intentions and good moments have happened due to the threads existence, but some opportunistic people have latched on and turned it a bit sour. http://www.beckett.com/forums/thread-1500117.html

RE: Positivity Movement 2012
I don't read the main board much I guess. I never have read this. Its a great thread and it's nice to see my name was even mentioned in it. I have my own story to add now. This is the latest of many.
Let me just say I can tell some HeyFitzy stories as well. Here is my latest story about another member though. http://www.beckett.com/forums/thread-1509546.html Oh I have another great one. A few weeks back I posted about needing to sell a few cards for money to cover shipping. I said I needed to make $12. I got no hits before bed. The next morning I woke up to a Paypal gift of $12. It came from RyanMo. The same guy HeyFitzy bought that card for. There is a reason guys like him get things like this. What a gesture!! I sent him cards, I couldn't help myself. I mean that was a class act. This community is the best. I can go all night here. I can tell countless stories about my gift thread and the guys who have sent my kids cards. I can tell about wendelclark sending my daughter her first Eric Hosmer auto. She is only 4. I can tell about rtharp1 trading my 7 year old a $50 Butler auto for her $25 Texas Jsy card just because she wanted it and the value meant nothing to him in this case. I can tell about HeyFitzy and the TONS of cards he has sent to so many people. I can tell about Lecreccio offering to deal me some cards he new I needed for anything I'd give in return cause he wanted them in the right hands. I can tell about franciscomarina doing a trade $90 in my favor cause he didn't care about the cards as long as it helped my project. Man I can go on for a long time. How big is this thread? I have left so many people out. I feel like the guy on stage excepting and award and not having the time to thank everyone. ![]() Kila Ka'aihue 133/138 Non 1/1s (96% complete) 13/64 1/1s (19% complete) Auto Needs: http://www.beckett.com/forums/thread-1529244.html |

Mike is a really good guy himself. I am really glad that beckett, opg's, packages and cards in general have a positive side to them that most choose to ignore. All because most collectors want to know why the package is not on their door step the day after, or why someone is charging to much, or why their package got lost etc. It's always nice to hear the good sides of this hobby and a quick reminder of why I got back into it in the first place! For the record, I traded a 2001 Bowman reissue of "The Shot Heard Around The World" card from the 1990 Bowman set certifiably autographed by both Bobby Thomson and Ralph Branca in gold ink. The biggest pull of my lifetime to date and an extremely cool card but the Griffey was worth the trade to me.

RE: Positivity Movement 2012
This is my story and was originally posted on another board. I think it fits extremely well in this thread.
MT = Morning Thread I don't know how to say this without at ballin my head off!!! A couple of weeks back I posted about a card that I have seen up for auction at that point for the third time. I was so pissed that it came up for auction when it did because I already spent money or was going to on buying tickets for my wife and I for a trip. I had to pass on the card because I couldn't do the card and the tickets. I watched it end at auction and thought....man I hope I get to see it again. And left it at that. A couple of days ago I was contacted via PM by Pinbreaker, he let me know he had an Ethier card that he would like to send to me. Pause the story here.... If any of you recall a few months back I picked up a 2007 UD Black Lustrous Materials of Ethier off the bay and when it arrived it had a major scratch on it. I contacted the seller and he was ready to send me a refund. Since this is a PC card I passed on it and said I would pick up an upgrade if I got a deal on it. Back to my story.... Kevin let me know that he had one and wanted to send it to me...I didn't give him the background story at the time because I was typing from my phone. So today, I get several packages in the mail, many of them from eBay for the Devon Ethier cards i have picked up....and 2 very special ones from MT members. Eric Sent me a 2011 Heritage refractor that I needed for while. Thanks you very much man!! ![]() So when I got to the package with Kevin's name on it, I was a little dumbfounded. Well at first I thought man he should does take pride in the way he ships, even it is a freebie this package is thick as hell. I was pleasantly surprised at that. So as I started to open the package, I see there is a folded up piece of paper in it, I figure he is just jotting a little note letting me know he hopes I enjoy the card for my PC. We all do it right? Not the case with this little baby....I open it up and here it what it says: ![]() I was like well right on that was cool as hell, the guys remembered I had an issue with that previous 2007 UD Black card and chipped in and got me a new one and here it is... ![]() But wait.....that isn't all. Remember I said the package was thick as hell......???? I turned over the bubble wrap and saw this......and for this I have no other words than from the center of my soul, I promise that this will never leave my collection. If I ever at some point in time, have only 1 baseball card left in my house and life....this will be the one. I can't thank you all enough. ![]() I am sure this is what the note was really intended for. Guys I can't thank you enough, seriously. And true to my word, not only am I sitting here crying like a little baby as I type this, this will card will never leave me.
