He went back and forth on how he aquired it... He has admitted that he now thinks the card is faked... And that's that I guess...

RE: Heads up guys... SPX RGIII fake...
This is really sad, all the way around. I truly hate the idea that people would go to this length to rip other people off. It's just money!
If I pulled an RGIII like that out of a pack (the real one, not the Nike one), I would have one of two thoughts:
1) Holy crap, this is a cool card, I'm going to get a magnet holder for it. This card is not going anywhere but my house, baby!
2) Holy crap, this is a cool card, I'm going to get a magnet holder for it. I bet it would sell pretty well right now with training camp around the corner.
I would NOT think:
1) Holy crap, this is a cool card, I'm going to get a magnet holder for it. Better yet, let me see if I can take an exacto knife to this beautiful card and switch the patches out. Once I do that, maybe I can rip people off for even more money than I already would have gotten for the original!
Good lord, what the hell is wrong with people?

The truth is, the manufacturers make it far too easy. Their are going to be counterfeiters in every trade and they should do more to stop it. Sometimes I think they let it happen just to sell more product. I like the idea of a tamper proof clear film above the patch. Here is an experiment I did on my site just to show how easy it really is. No exacto knife was used, just tweezers and a glue stick. The card had damage on the back and was destroyed afterwards.

I really like your idea of a clear film over the patch area. But they need to make it large enough so that it would ruin the card if that film was messed with. As for the RG3 that patch job is horrid they could have at least made that tag go right side up.

The film should be embedded between the layers of the card. Or make the film the same size as the card, pressed between layers only exposing the window. When there is a will, there is a way. That's why I tend to believe the manufacturers make it so easy, with purpose, or at a very least they make believe the problem doesn't exist because they don't get hurt. The consumer does.
