Preparing to send in for the first time

Preparing to send in for the first time
I am getting ready to send in for the first time and I just have a few questions.
1. Do I send in cards to get graded BGS and BVG together? Do I specify anywhere or do they automatically grade BVG for cards that qualify
2. I have read a bit on the forum and it seems some/all? people prepare cards to be sent in, what would you recommend I do to ensure the best grade? What I have seen is that some people take a cloth used for eyeglasses to clean the surface...is that smart and is there any other tricks?
3. I purchased some Ultra Pro Semi Rigid Card Holders...those work to send in for grading correct? I put the card into a penny sleeve and then into this and then into a priority box for shipment correct?
4. A specific question....I have a Nolan Ryan Rookie Card that the person I got it from trimmed along the edge so the bottom has roundeed corners along the border and then the top has been trimmed down...can I still send that in for grading? I know full well it won't grade well, but I seen a BVG 2 sell for over $100 on Ebay so I figured what the heck.
5. What is the main difference (outside of cost) from BGS and PSA? If you sent in the same 100 cards to each and got the same grade would you probably average out the same?
6. On the send in sheet it asks for card value...is that the value of the card I am sending in as is or is at the value once it is graded or what do you guys put there?
7. This is a bit more off topic but I am selling a bunch of lots of cards on Ebay right now (like 50 of this player, 80 of this player, etc...) what is the best way to ship? Is it acceptable to place the cards (without a card sleeve or anything) into an appropriate sized plastic card case and send them or should each card be in a sleeve then placed in a plastic card holder?
Thanks so much in advance...sorry if some of the questions seem obvious I just want to make sure I do it right. Any other tips would be appreciated. I am planning on sending in around 30 cards so I want to make sure I do it smart

1. You don't specify. Just send them in together. You used to have to specify, but not anymore.

3. Correct.

4. I wouldn't send it in b/c it would come back as altered - trimmed. And it would have a blue label.

6. I put what I Paid for the card.

Most has been answered by my friend Nolan, but I will add a few things.

1. Cards are automatically given BVG/BGS labels based on the year they are BVG 1980 and before. BGS 1981 and above.
2. When I send in cards, I get out eye glasses and such, something to look for is centering, learning the hard way, centering is extremely important. Also if you have an emory cloth (like you clean glasses with) lightly wipe the cards surface.
3. semi rigid are the best, however top loaders work but run the risk of coming out. penny sleeves have pro and cons, I have actually dinged cards trying to put them in penny sleeves, your call. if you have brand new semi-rigid holder no real need for penny sleeve.
4. You can send it in, but someone how you can tell them you want it slabbed with the blue label like Nolan said. I have never done this however.
5. My opinion, PSA is popular with more vintage cards because of the set registry, if you have a HIGH end card (ex 1986 Jordan that could get BGS 10) BGS is better for newer cards.
Price wise, recently I have found Beckett to be CHEAPER! I was going to send about 25 cards to PSA for grading, without a "membership" they wanted like $15 a card! even with a membership their prices are still the same, and WAAAAYYYY more complicated to submit cards to them.
6. You can either put what you paid for it, or what you think the value is after grading. If you have a Jordan RC that is MINT that you paid $500 for, you do NOT want to put $500, you want to put say $1500. your risk however, if you put $0 on all your cards, just to keep the return shipping insurance down (only reason to put value on it), then you can "save money" risky however.
7. I sell A LOT on eBay. The way I ship I get a paper towel and wrap cards like that up (usually about 50 cards in a group at max) this will keep them from sliding around. and then put 2 top loaders around that for protection.
then I use bubble wrap around that.
Obviously if you have the plastic 10/20/30/40/50/100 card holders use those. I sell to much myself to use those, as that just raises costs.

hope this all helps.

Brandon.

Thanks!

PS: Please forgive my poor grammar in my response. I noticed many errors when going back to read it. When I type I just type what is in my head which does not always come out in a proper form. I have a poor habit about proof reading :/

Pardon my lateness of replying,,,, lifes been nuts between work & healthcare issues with my wife,,,,,

1. Do I send in cards to get graded BGS and BVG together? Do I specify anywhere or do they automatically grade BVG for cards that qualify

Yes ,,,,no need to specify,,,,,

Card Saver 1 for regular stuff,,, different sizes for thicker/larger cards,,,,,

I'd recommend cutting the edge as shown below before inserting the card will make it easier,,,,,,

Also-- for upwards of 50 regular cards-- or 20 or so thick items,,,, I'd use a 300 or 400 ct box,,,,, put into and insert similar to my pic,,,, then inside a Flat Rate Medium Priority Mail box,,,,

I'd send in for authentication only,,,, merely indicate on the grading form you want all items slabbed,,,, see pic below for where on the form it is,,,,,

5. What is the main difference (outside of cost) from BGS and PSA? If you sent in the same 100 cards to each and got the same grade would you probably average out the same

Personal choice,,,,,,

One is more known for the quality of its holders and for "perceived" grading quality/consistency,,,,, the other for its registry participation and "perceived" retail resale valuation

6. On the send in sheet it asks for card value...is that the value of the card I am sending in as is or is at the value once it is graded or what do you guys put there?

Its the value you put on the card for how much you expect it to be worth once inside a slab,,,, its used only for insurance reasons should you chose to insure your package

7. This is a bit more off topic but I am selling a bunch of lots of cards right now (like 50 of this player, 80 of this player, etc...) what is the best way to ship? 300 to 400 ct boxes

RE: Preparing to send in for the first time
Hi, I also sent cards for the first time. 20 day service, shipped them on June 26th, Beckett received them on June 27th, But the 20 day service didn't start until June 28th. I get a call on July 19th saying that they are having problems with my credit card, they charge my credit card on July 20th & I'm told that my order will be delayed 5-7 business days more. I've been trying to find out why I'm being penalized. This maybe be my first & last time sending cards to be graded.

RE: Preparing to send in for the first time
I wanted to post here instead of starting a new thread. I have an 89 UD Griffey that I want to get graded. I got the semi's so I put it in a penny holder but when I went to put it in the semi ridged I felt like I was trying to force it.

I didn't want to ruin the card (obviously).... Should i put it in a semi ridged by itself and tape the top?
