Did BGS make a mistake?
I just got my submissions back and I feel like Beckett made a mistake with my order. I sent in 5 cards and I had a Minimum Grade put on the cards. The card I have a question on is a 2002 Topps 206 Ty Cobb Bat Relic SP/100.
The card that came with it had a diagram of the front and back of the card, as to show what may or may not be wrong with the card. The only marking on the card was on the front diagram. It had an arrow going up and down in the middle, as to say it was off center top and bottom (at least thats my best guess). The more I thought about it, since it was the only mark on the card, it had to be bad enough OC to not grade the minimum (9.5). But the way the set was produced is that the card has a thinner border at the top than the bottom. So it's not off center, thats how all the cards in the set were made, so that's the design and not a flaw. So to me if that was the only (blemish) on the card, I think it should have made the minimum grade, since nothing else is wrong with the card. I guess I could be completely wrong, but does anyone have an idea of what's going on or could help me out? I'm really lost for an explanation. Thanks If need be, I can upload scans of the card as well as the BGS thing that came with it. The one with the markings on it. I will be able to do this later in the evening. |

RE: Did BGS make a mistake?
The Top to Bottom ratio is off,,, From pics looks like that card is "looks" larger than the standard 3.5 inch height ,,,,,, have you measured that height in a pixel measuring device?? Also is the card inside "floating" in the interior cutout? Looks like the interior cutout is miscut on the left side,,,, although that could be just in how the pics coming across,,,,, The thing about pics is an inability to see the nuances needed,,, If you think its good doesn't hurt to contact Jeromy Murray or Mark Anderson and have them do a review with a senior grader,,,, worth the 5 bucks to review if the Gem means that much ![]() My opinion of course,, Jeff SUGGESTIONS SUBMIT IT HERE !! RE: Did BGS make a mistake?
I haven't measured the card itself. I guess my whole thing was that since the only mark on their checklist was for centering, that's what kept the grade down. But that is the design for that set so it would actually be fine maybe? I'm not getting angry or defensive but that would be like giving a die cut card a grade of 0 on edges. I also feel that since the card is 10 years old, and it's not seen very often if someone was just unfamiliar with the set.
Thanks, Matthew How would I go about contacting either of the people mentioned? Thank you for all of your help. It is very much appreciated |
