6th biggest card i have ever picked up for a customer
Had a customer that let me "go shopping" for them for my dutch. in the end, i didnt make much profit on this, but I almost want to keep it for myself

1952 Topps Andy Pafko - the first topps card ever made. book value in this condition is still over a couple grand

(the 52 pafko was the card featured in the bruce willis movie "cop out")

I love that card. Had one once that I got in a large lot of '52 Topps about a decade ago from someone on ebay. I only got the lot to strictly piece out and sell though. Now that I'm probably going to work on the set, I wish I hadn't. Oh well, that's the way life rolls.

there really is something about the pafko.

a long time ago, i started working on the 52 set, but just got enamored with the card and gave up on the set and concentrated on this card. i tried to get a bvg 1-6 for both the red and black versions (no mid-grades. 7 and higher were too expensive). I had them all except for a bgs 6 black, a bgs 4 red and a bgs 3 red. they just look sweet all lined up

When did '51 Topps stop counting as cards?

For a fun bit of trivia: Kevin Smith originally planned on having a Gretzky RC as the focal point of the movie instead of the Pafko and even went so far as to purchase one from COMC.

51 topps blue backs, IIRC correctly, werent considered base sets, but rather inserts into...a caramel candy thing? fuzzy on the details

im gonna have to put my thinking cap on. also, some of these have gone down in price over the years

BGS 9.5 1984-85 Star #101 Michael Jordan XRC (and that card just went down in value this month! wow. tom brady's fleer trad went down in value this month too)

1995-96 finest mystery test refractor michael jordan PSA 10 (at the time it was a 2500 dollar card in nr-mt shape. the whole test refractor set has gone down since)

about 7 years ago i gave out an ungraded 1952 Tip Top #24 Mickey Mantle. it would in nice shape...think it would have gotten maybe a bvg 6 or 7

1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays, ungraded

im blanking on the fifth...i want to say it was something ichiro. ill check my database when i get home

im confused then,,,why arent considered widely as the first topps set? because the biggest players werent in them? (wasnt it about a 50 card set?)

okay, stop being lazy, josh:

52 card set.

http://www.beckett.com/baseball/1951/topps-blue-backs/

The cards in this 52-card set measure approximately 2" by 2 5/8". The 1951 Topps series of blue-backed baseball cards could be used to play a baseball game by shuffling the cards and drawing them from a pile. These cards (packaged two adjoined in a penny pack) were marketed with a piece of caramel candy, which often melted or was squashed in such a way as to damage the card and wrapper (despite the fact that a paper shield was inserted between candy and card). Blue Backs are more difficult to obtain than the similarly styled Red Backs. The set is denoted on the cards as "Set B" and the Red Back set is correspondingly Set A. The only notable Rookie Card in the set is Billy Pierce.

and from the 52 topps set:

The cards in this 407-card set measure approximately 2 5/8" by 3 3/4". The 1952 Topps set is Topps' first truly major set.
