He helped bring great success to Oregon's football team. During his career we went to one National Championship, and two Rose Bowl's (winning one). As a Ducks fan that's good enough for me! 
I think he will get a solid shot in the Niners backfield...Gore is still the man, but I expect Harbaugh to utilize Jacobs, James, and Hunter in various roles. I think by the end of the season Hunter will be the odd man out, and James should be the guy in a great spot to be the future back of the 49ers....depending on his play of course.
