Long story short I sold a game, mailed it with 2 other packages and the other packages got there fine with tracking updated all the way but the game seems to have disappeared without a trace. I sent without insurance because it was under $50 so I am assuming I am screwed. Has anyone ever had something just appear out of nowhere after no tracking or am I hoping against hope? Also I will obviously refund the buyer if he doesn't get it but how long should I wait before giving up on them getting it and sending the refund? Any help or advice appreciated. BTW, will be calling the USPS later

Game sent with DC? If so, there should a scan when received by PO.
If not, then it did not get to PO. IF you mailed at PO, then the scan should reflect that.
I have had items not scanned so up to the person, but usually, if there is no scan, I notify the PO with the DC # and let them know that the package was not scanned.
Sometimes, they send it to the wrong place and have had scans from all over the US before being delivered, but I follow the scans.

Notify the PO now!

Notify the buyer, let them know and give them options and time frame they are comfortable with. Not their fault, not your fault..but as the seller, you will have give $$ back..

Yeah I always use Paypal shipping now so it comes with DC which is why I am really worried there is no tracking updates. I just dropped it in the mailbox like I do with almost everything else & it hasn't even been scanned as accepted. The buyer has already contacted me so they are well aware of it. In over 1000 transactions on Ebay/Half.com and 100+ here I have only had 1 or 2 packages go missing so I tend to freak a little when it happens. It will be 2 weeks this Saturday since I mailed it so I think I will ask the buyer to wait til then for the refund if the USPS can't locate it. Is 2 weeks reasonable in your opinion? Hoping I don't get my first negative or neutral over this

Does that package show any details & what shipping method did you use. Recently i had a priority mail package sit for 4 days in NJ, then it was showing in Alaska on day 5. Unless it has been a long time i would wait on refunding. Calling usps may help as their tracking info is more accurate then the usps "track & confirm" online.

Get the PO involved with all info...
The Paypal paper trail is going to work for you as well.
Negative from buyer is possible, but with good communications, and offer of refund, I have not had a negative over stuff like this..
PO should know now that the package was not scanned and where you dropped it..
I have done this before and have the package "appear" funny huh??

id say 25-35% of my packages dont get scanned on the front end, and odnt enter the system until it hits the first sort center. id say of that 35-45%, a third of those dont get scanned until the end

My main issue with paypal shipping that I am nervous about. I'd prefer just physically going down to the post office and getting them scanned into the system myself. Knowing if something doesn't work right with DC I am automatically out the item and the money its a risk I'd rather not take.

you can use paypal shipping, then take it down to the post office and have them scan them in

paypal shipping is MUCH cheaper than the post office

Yeah, I always wondered if I could do that. It definitely is something to look into. Do you save on Insurance through paypal shipping as well or only the DC thing?

Ugh. Just got off the phone with what was quite honestly the worst customer service person in history. I now know why they are in the trouble they are in. I felt like I was dealing with "Peggy" from Discover. I am just going to email them because I got nowhere.
