RE: Do you remember your first big pull?
From a retail pack of 2008-09 Series 2 from a Mac Milk corner store:
![]() I actually asked for Series 1 but the guy didn't hear me right but I didn't bother correcting him. Turned it into some really nice Roy PC cards at the time, but all have been sold off to fund the BTP addiction. ![]() Collecting Patrick Roy |

Same goes for all the hockey stuff, never pulled a Lemieux ![]() Value wise and most recently I pulled an RNH Canvas YG and was pleasantly surprised. But I got more excited when I bought the last two packs of Topps 2012 at the LCS and pulled a Lucas Duda black border. Beating the odds always feels great, anyone can go out and buy 200 value boxes and pull a Harper auto... RE: Do you remember your first big pull?
Most Memorable: For Easter, I was eleven, I found a box of 1997-98 Pacific in my basket. Before I only ever opened loose packs or those retail blaster/variety boxes. I remember seeing the box in my basket and not really sure what it was or what to do with it. It was one of those things that you never expected, and it was a great surprise. I don't remember any other hits from the box, but the big hit was a one per box (1:24) Gold Crown Die Cut. And which pack was it, the last one. And who was it, Peter Forsberg. I was stoked. It was then and there I focused on collecting Forsberg. (I also pulled a mini card-supial of Forsberg from that box, too).
Most Expensive (at the time): In 2001, my dad bought me a variety box from Meijer after hockey (10 assorted packs in those god-forsaken plastic blisters that were impossible to open without scissors). I opened all the better packs first and had a 1997-98 Pacific pack towards the end. As I opened it I noticed all the cards were stuck together like a brick but I could tell there was gap between the cards. I knew there was only one card that would create a gap like that, a Cramer's Choice Award. But thought, not me, not in a variety box. Sure enough it was, and it was non other than Mr. Wayne Gretzky himself ($250 at the time). The card is worth less than a third of that now but sits proudly on my shelf. Great Thread. ![]() http://s613.photobucket.com/albums/tt215...ynick1721/ |

RE: Do you remember your first big pull?
Mine was a different pull I passed by the Old Montreal Forum in the early nineties and they had a little shop there I would buy used sticks at $10. a pop (they used to save them for me most only had little chips in them that I filed away)I was still playing Hockey at the time with an industrial league ...during the game I broke all of sticks I had so I went to the dressing room and took the Brian Skrudland stick that I had bought earlier and used it... what an incredible stick!...I scored 4 goals that night and used it for the rest of our season and went on to score 63 goals before it broke ...the curve was on the heel for myself that is what made it spectacular I got used to shooting with it immediately man could I really wire it with that twig....just thought I would share that little fun fact...
now onto the big pull although I had many a great pulls this one was one I thought was really fantastic because of the players on the card and their accomplishments I will post the card and let you see why I thought it was a great pull....so under rated

RE: Do you remember your first big pull?
First story is a bit of a long one -
My first big pull was on Christmas Day, 1990. Every year on Christmas Day, my Aunt and Uncle would come over for dinner, along with my brat cousin. Every year at some point I'd need to get some air (and away from the chaos), so I'd walk up to the local convienent store that was open on Christmas. I walked up, bought something to drink and a couple packs of 1990 ProSet Football and Hockey. As soon as I left the store, I stopped and opened the packs right out front. As I went thru the packs I found.....SANTA CLAUS!!!! - I PULLED A SANTA CLAUS CARD ON CHRISTMAS!!!! LOL! There is a funny addition to the story. I opened all the packs and then put them back in the brown paper bag. As I crossed the street to walk back home, a police car pulled out of the gas station across the street, and turns his lights on and pulls up next to me. The officer got out of the car, turns his flashlight on me, and asked me what I just bought at the store. I told him I had bought a bottle of pop and a bunch of football cards. He shines the light on the bag and tells me to open the bag. I show him all the packs of cards inside. Then he demands to see my "bottle". I show him the Pepsi I bought. He finally calms down and tells to to go home. Turns out, the police were watching the store trying to catch them selling alcohol to minors on Christmas, and he thought he finally had proof! Fast forward 15 years. It's now 2005 and I've been back into collecting a few years, almost entirely football. Then comes all the fury over Crosby, Ovechkin, and locally Vanek. I'm watching alot of big spenders drop heaps of cash buying up all hockey. I'm walking around the local flea market and I find a crowd of guys tearing thru 2005 Upper Deck ICE. I walked up through the crowd and bought a box, for $74 if I remember right..... Third pack in... ![]() I thought I was going to get beat up by an angry mob..
