Question about pricing on similar cards from different companies

Question about pricing on similar cards from different companies
Was just curious and wanted to know why rookie cards from different companies vary so much in price. For example, a pack of Topps Five Star cost $400-$500 per pack and a Cam Newton RC books for XXX amount. If you compare this to a auto patch rookie of Cam Newton from National Treasures, those cards are selling for FAR MORE than the Topps Five Star and will probably be at least double the price book value wise. Why is this? It seems like the per pack cost is virtually the same. And then you have the SP Authentic pack that cost about $6.75 and if you pull a auto patch of Cam Newton, it's priced the same as the Topps Five Star one, but there were more in production /299 and the packs are way cheaper compared to Five Star. Just wanted to see why you guys thought this was, thanks.

I think it's people like certain cards more than others, more people want National Treasures than Five Star. The age old supply and demand rule.

RE: Question about pricing on similar cards from different companies
I think it has to do with populartity and history of the product. If you look at the last 8-10 years all the desirable rookie auto are from SP Authentic and Playoff Contenders. Topp Five Star is only in its second year so maybe someday it will replace Exquisite popularity wise.
Current projects:
2014 Topps Heritage
2012 Gypsy Queen master set
Super Bowl Winning QB autos

Just look at the difference between the two cards. Five Star has a tiny little jersey and NT has a big patch for most of them. National Treasures has been around longer and just looks better. Five Star wasnt nearly as good this year and for a high end didnt hold its value after a few weeks.

I think also people are fed up with the fact that none of those 5 star cards are mint. If you can't get mint condition cards out of a pack, for God's sake, why bother buying that junk?

Supply and demand at it's best....what do you think would happen to NT and 5 star if people just quit buying it? Do really think a single pack of cards should cost $500?

Always looking for BGS or BVG graded cards for HOFers....especially the skilled positions.
