Griffey Collectors - I Need Some Help Please

Griffey Collectors - I Need Some Help Please
I was going through some older stuff and found a Ken Griffey Jr card from 1996 or 1997 (has a '97 copywright, but listed in beckett as a 1996 Upper Deck Vending Folz Mini). Does anyone have an idea what these sell for, there are none that I could find on eBay either current or ended listings. I've got a Griffey collector that comes in to our store but have no idea what price to put on it for him, don't want to rip him off but don't want to undersell myself either.
Any help is appreciated!

I paid $8 for the Larkin if that helps you with a ballpark. They are very rare, but there was a guy who bought a stash of them about 6 months ago from an old vendor, so the market on them softened a bit for certain players. I would say maybe $15-$20 for the Griffey?

I believe this is the card you are referring to:
http://www.beckett.com/baseball/1996/upp...sp-8464049
These cards were made for Cardzillion machines at Toys R Us stores. This was a vending machine, like the ones you can get stickers out of at some stores. There is a complete 48 card set on eBay right now for $100 with no bids. There have been a few singles of Arod and Jeter sold, but the price fluctuates greatly between auctions.

There is no price listed on the online price guide for any of the cards in this set, plus the Griffey is listed as a SP. I would guess the price guide value would be $10-$20, but I could be off since I don't know how truly rare the SPs were in this set.
Collecting John Stockton, Karl Malone, Ivan Rodriguez, Gary Carter & UF player rookie year cards.  Plus Jedd Gyorko rookie and prospect cards.

I can tell you first hand the Thomas brings around $40. The best person to ask about this on these boards is our resident Jeter collector Chris. My bet is its a good $40-50 sell value.

Edit: I just read an old post by Chris which stated the last Jeter on eBay sold for $21. Jeter is not a SP in the set though. I think I am about where you wanna be at the $40-50 range.

The Thomas is a SP, the Jeter is not. The Jeter has sold on eBay for $10-$20. The Griffey is also a SP. If the Thomas SP brings $40 than I would agree that the Griffey is probably closer to $50-$60, which is definitely a lot more than my original estimate. However if the SPs really command that high of a price than I would expect the complete set to sell for significantly more than $100.

I didn't realize Beckett had started listing these. I have two. The Bonds and the Molitor.

I would guess that all the SPs have a foil finish like this Bonds card. My Molitor is not a SP and does not have a foil finish.
I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.

RE: Griffey Collectors - I Need Some Help Please
I think the set commands less cause individual collectors only want the one card. It would seem logical to grab the set and sell the singles. I mean let's say they are only $20,it would take 5 cards to make the money back. It's just that a lot of collectors are not logical like that.

It's ver similar to buying vs trading. I know guys who will trade a $50 card selling for $40 for a $50 card they want they sells for $25. Why not sell your card and buy the other card and keep the profit? Well some collectors are logical like that. They see the trade as easier and funner or what not. It's the same here. It's easier to grab the card you want for $50 less then buy the set and have to work to piece it out.

RE: Griffey Collectors - I Need Some Help Please
I really believe the value of these cards has dropped recently because they have become more readily available. There were a bunch of these listed on COMC a couple of months ago by the same person. There are 2 SP's listed there right now for Chipper and Caminiti, but they haven't sold. With the Griffey being an SP, it would carry a premium, but the regular cards are not worth as much anymore. The last couple AROD's only sold for a coule of bucks.
