Unknown Michael Jordan card??????????
Hey guy's,
I am wondering if anybody can give me info on this Jordan card I have, I found it back in the late 80's early 90's at a flea market and I have not been able to find out anything about it. I am sure it is not worth much, just want to know about and if any other ones are around. All the scratches are from the top loader. Thanks, Jim ![]()

RE: Unknown Michael Jordan card??????????
This is a Broder style card and is not an officially licensed card. They were really common in the early and mid 1990s, as everyone and their brother was making them and selling them for a few bucks each. They would add the holographic and diffractive effects to the card to make them appear to be more valuable too.

RE: Unknown Michael Jordan card??????????
The fact that his jersey has no team name is a giveaway. That is not to say it is worthless. I have a slew of Scottie Pippen cards that have no "Bulls" logo on them anywhere and no team name. Could I sell them? Probably not. But I like them.
JonathanI I look for HOF Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Cubs. Add in a few personal favorites I collect from each team, and everything else in my collection is up for trade. |

RE: Unknown Michael Jordan card??????????
Since there is no NBA players association logo, I would say it is counterfeit.

RE: Unknown Michael Jordan card??????????
Actually these are NOT promos or prototypes, they are called BRODERS. Promos and prototypes are from known companies to show off upcoming product and to entice people to order it. During the 90s promos and prototype cards became very popular and so did broders. Some people got the 2 confused as some broders actually had promo written on them to try and garner even more attention. However they are distinctly different in the true promos and protoype cards were usually licensed and issued by known manufacturers (i.e. Topps, Fleer, Leaf, Donruss, Upper Deck, Classic, etc).

However they are distinctly different in the true promos and protoype cards were usually licensed and issued by known manufacturers (i.e. Topps, Fleer, Leaf, Donruss, Upper Deck, Classic, etc). This is what I was saying. In order to be a 'promo' it has to promote a licensed company, ie Fleer UD Topps. "Broder: An un-licensed card. Broder's usually have players on them that are currently under contract in a professional sports league, but the publisher does not pay a licensing fee. Also known as "counterfeit cards," "illegal cards" and "unlicensed cards." Many card show dealers will try to sell such Broder cards at $3 - $5. At most, you should pay $1 a card. Probably less. Many times when you ask a dealer where a Broder originated from, he will certainly say "It's a promo." Dealers usually say this to strike interest, because the "mark" collectors are usually interested in investment. Broder cards have NO investment value. They simply are additions to the market that add variety. Probably the most famous Broder card is an early 90s Michael Jordan baseball card done in the style of the 1986 Donruss baseball set." |
