They matter, I was outbid on a 2011 National Treasures Navorro Bowman #1/99 it went for over $50 when regulars were going for $12 to $15 at the time. I couldn't see paying over $50 for it though so I got sniped in the end.

All that said I do find the etards listing them as 1/1......... completely etarded.

I paid like $4 for mine just because it is some random SN. I like it when it is Hasselbeck's jersey number but NO way I'm going to pay outrageous money for it!
