Should These Players be in HOF

RE: Should These Players be in HOF
If I had a HOF vote, I'd vote for most all of these guys basically for the same reasons as moyni stated. I'm disgusted with them but I would still vote for them based upon their game credentials. Sheffield and Giambi are not HOFers in my eyes and would come up short. Biggio and Jeter are HOFers. Utley is not going to make it. Unfortunately for him I don't think he has five more good years left.
I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.

RE: Should These Players be in HOF
McGwire - no
Palmeiro - no (only because he lied and was caught by MLB after the new policy was in force)
Bonds - Absolutley. He may have been a prick, but no amount of PED's is going to make you a 7 time MVP,and he was never convicted of using and no one but him knows for sure what he was doing.
Clemens - Absolutely. please see Barry Bonds.
A. Rodriguez- Yes.
Sosa - no - PED's and corked bat = no.
Sheffield - no - Just doesn't have the numbers.
Ramirez - no - Caught and suspended twice + being a prick = no.
Giambi - no

Pete Rose - yes. As long as he didn't bet on his team to lose I say yes. If Steve Howe can be suspended 7 times for drug abuse and reinstated, then Rose should be reinstated also. Unless someone can prove he shaved points or intentionally through a game.

I hope Pete Rose gets in since he wasn't betting on his team. There are plenty of players like Ken Griffey Jr that will get in with now problem. I'm wondering if people think there HOF players now in the game besides all the great pitchers, Albert Pujlos, Jeter. Anyone else? How about position players such as Chase Utley? Yes I'm bringing him up because he's my favorite player but I want to hear from other true baseball fans and I want to hear about other current players where the question is could they get in the Hall of Fame. Here's some of Utley's accomplishments so I think may give him a shot.
Utley has been one or the best second basemen as or recently -
5 x All Star (may have had more but he has had injuries)
4 x Silver Slugger at second base
2 x NL Player of the Month
5 x NL Player of the Week
Holds MLB record for reaching base in 26 consecutive playoff games
Only left handed hitter besides Babe Ruth to hit 2 homeruns in game 1 of the WS
Only player besides Reggie Jackson to hit 5 homeruns in a WS
(2010) Fielding Bible Award
Career Stats as of now -
Batting Average - .290
Home Runs - 188
RBI's - 694
Hits - 1,198

So what does it take to be in the Hall of Fame now a days? Who are your favorite players that you think could make their way to Cooperstown?
As much as I hate to say it Utley only gets into the Hall of Fame if he buys a ticket. The guy had a solid career but his career is coming to an end I believe. No cartilage in his knees at all at this point. I don't think he plays past this season

Also for Bonds I doubt all 7 of the MVP's he was using PED's

Utley's first season was in 2002 as far as cards go your telling me you don't think he can do another 5 years? I mean Pujols has 10 years left and he was a rookie in 2001 so he could have a few more years left or do you think he is going to do the Don Mattingly thing and retire early? I just wish he played one more year so he could of won 1 World Series as I think that would of put him in the Hall Of Fame. He will get voted in by the veterans to me though because the years he did play he was one of the best players in the game.

RE: Should These Players be in HOF
Don Mattingly. WHAT? Yes.

‘Donnie Baseball’ was a prodigious fielder as he claimed 9 first base Gold Gloves which is only second in history to Keith Hernandez. Mattingly is considered one of the more dominant hitters of the 1980’s. In fact, he held the highest batting average (.323) and slugging percentage (.521) of all first basemen during the 80’s and the most RBIs in a single season (145) during the decade.

The fact that Mattingly was hampered by back injuries throughout the 1990’s only enhances his reputation. He won each of his 3 Silver Sluggers and was named to the AL All-Star team 6 times before the 90’s even began. Mattingly almost completed back-to-back MVP-winning seasons in 1985 and 1986. He took home the 1985 award but lost out to Roger Clemens in the latter year despite batting .352 and leading the AL in hits, doubles, total bases and slugging percentage.

He stands as a .307 lifetime hitter even while dealing with the said back issues and had an unbelievable hitter’s eye. Mattingly finished with 588 walks and only struck out 444 times in 7,721 plate appearances during his career. He may have never won that elusive World Series ring but anyone who saw ‘Donnie Baseball’ play understood that he was as vital to the New York Yankees as Derek Jeter was during the championship years following Mattingly’s retirement in 1995.

If he took steroids like McGwire, he could have had 3K hits and 400 homers easy, but he didn't and shouldn't be punished for it.
Thx!
John

I agree with you but because he play such a short career is why he will not get voted in and why I believe the veterans will vote him in later. McGwire will get in as well but that will only be because he hit 500 homeruns but he will not get in for awhile because of the PED's he used.

Utley's knees are a MAJOR issue. He just left Spring Training again to see another specialist. I would love nothing better than a complete turn around and him to be playing like he did in 05, 06, 07, and 08 but I am trying to be realistic. I really believe he is finished. It's bone on bone in both knees from what I was hearing yesterday. Mattingly was by far my favorite player EVER but I believe Utley takes the same route and retires early. BTW, I still hate the Mariners for beating the Yankees in 1995 because of Mattingly. When the Yankees won it in 1996 the 1st thing I thought of was Mattingly not playing one more year

Mattingly was my fathers favorite and I am going to say he has most of his cards while he was playing. One day I will make a photobucket of them as well.

I don't see how you can say Arod and not Bonds as well.
