Dont think it says anything about the hobby drowning lol. I think card companies are just finding it affordable to spend x dollars on a ruth bat where you can get a million little slivers out of the wood for it, then sell the boxes for 300$.

I think what he is trying to say is 10 years ago if you pulled a Ruth GU card you could put it up and eBay and get $200-500 for a plain GU card like this. I dont necessarily think that means the hobby is dying. I think over the years the manufacturers have put out more and more & more Ruth GU cards. More cards just means collectors will get them at a better price. If you look at some of the sought after Ruth GU's like 05 Tools of the Trade. The jumbo swatches can still fetch $1000-2000 at auction.

RE: Nice Steal I think
I agree it all depends on the card. I sold a Roth gypsy queen mini bat fo over $100 this year. But if you read into a little more, I can't remember where, they are using bench pieces for a lot of the cards now. That is clears why the cards say game used relic, not game used bat. If it says bat your good, says relic you do not know. I will search around for the article where I read this.

I dont think its that.
I think (and its MY personal issue with current GU cards) is that the back states
"Congrats, you have just received an authentic game used piece of memorabilia."
The back does NOT state it was used by Ruth himself or what that piece of wood ACTUALLY IS.

Thats why the older UD ones seem to hold their value. IT says "Congrats, you have just received an authentic piece of bat (or jersey) used by Babe Ruth in an official Major League game."
HUGE difference in my opinion. Thats why I wont buy a vintage game used card past 2005, thats when all companies seemed to changed their wording on that.

I would rather pay $100-$200 for a GU bat card from 1999-2004 of Babe Ruth, than $60 for one now.
Just saying.
