Old School Boxes > Heaven <
Ok let me know what you guys think. I was on my way to work and as always I was going to stop at a card shop that is on my way, when I noticed a small out of the way comic/card shop. I thought I would take a chance and stopped to see what they had. All they had out on the shelf for basketball was one box of 11-12 hoops and I wasn't interested in that. Well the guy behind the counter got to looking and found a shelf in the back corner that was full of old school boxes (jackpot). He brought a few packs up and had to literally wipe the dust off of them. I ended up buying one box of 99-00 Ionex and one box of 98-99 Topps Chrome for $120. Was that a good deal in your opinion? I drove on to the hotel and since I work offshore and I am going to be gone for 2 weeks I had to get my fix on and bust them, lol. The Ionex was kind of disappointing nothing really to brag about but the Topps Chrome come through for me. All in all a fun break I love the old school stuff. Sorry I won't be able to post scans until I get home....I can't wait to go back and get me some more I have hit me a honey hole LOL.

A few of the Topps hits were
#CS1 Champion Spirit Michael Jordan
#CS3 Champion Spirit Ron Mercer
#CC8 Coast to Coast Kevin Garnett Refractor
#CC11 Coast to Coast Glenn Robinson
Vince Carter Rookie
Antwan Jamison Rookie and about 5 more Rookies
2 Refractors (don't remember who)
#221 to 235 Movin' on (all of them)
#3 Apparitions Brent Barry
#B3 Back2Back Dennis Rodman
#B5 Back2Back John Stockton
#I9 Instant Impact Jason Williams Refractor
and 4 or 5 Season Best just don't remember who right now.

Sorry about the long post, let me know if you think that was a good price for them, I love these old school boxes and these Topps Chrome are really nice looking cards. I like the looks of the Ionix also just wasn't a good box for me.

Thanks,

I collect Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Kevin Garnett also certain High End Celtics HOF's.

Work Off-Shore? Oil rigs? I was thinking about applying for an oil company.. but my background is Naval logistics/finance.. so not sure what jobs I'd qualify for..

think it was a good deal.. Can't find LCS that have old stuff anymore.. unless overpriced..

I went to a comic store in El Cajon, Ca last week.. thinking they had some basketball boxes.. they had a few old school... early 90's & a few scattered about from the 2000's... but no recent stuff, which I was disappointed in.. most were not complete boxes, so I stayed away.. thinking the good cards been pulled years ago..

debating to head up to Los Angless next week to check out a few shops.. time for another drive... also, try to visit some friends up that way that I haven't seen in years..

I'd say that's a touch higher than you would average if you tried to pick those two boxes up on the 'bay, but would probably even out w/ shipping. So not too bad, in my opinion.

MJ for trade, by chance? Smile

And you all know I love the old school boxes, I just wish a shop was anywhere near me so I could have the chance to do the same!

EDIT: 98-99 Chrome goes for more than I thought, it's 99-00 Chrome that's the cheap one by Chrome standards, so yeah $120 for both boxes is actually quite solid!...and I'd still like the MJ haha Smile
I collect Michael Jordan, Mitch Richmond, and Ohio State players (football and basketball) in OSU gear. I strongly prefer 90's-era cards and use newer cards primarily for trade bait!

Thanks,
Good deal ! I love to break old wax , I like the old inserts better than the current Memo cards and it's fun to build a set without tons of short prints. Old school but fun school without going broke.

Yeah offshore in the Gulf of Mexico worked 10 years with a drilling company(not Transocean) 4 of those overseas. Worked on deep water floaters drilling for the major's. Now I work on what is called a TLP (Tension Leg Platform) for Shell I have been in the offshore business about 14 years now. I am in safety but with your background you can go to work anywhere in logistics which is a good field to get into. If you want to know more let me know.
