Alan Trammell vs Ozzie Smith
#11

RE: Alan Trammell vs Ozzie Smith
You have to look at every aspect from what I have noticed. How is Alan in person, dose he have a fan base like Ozzie since your saying his stats are close alot of these things weigh in like All-Star appearances and Gold Golves. You have to look at it like this its what a person thinks. I know both players but have heard more about Ozzie Smith. So seeing more people know more about Ozzie Smith and less about Alan Trammell the stats don't matter then. If it was a computer that decided by every stat then he might be in but since its a human voteing he is not. I am sure he will get in but it will be when the veterans hall of fame inducts him.
Derek Jeter Collector from 1992-1996. 305 out of 306 99% complete.

1450/1919 1990's Jeter cards 76%

Ozzie Smith was awsome...Look at chances to errors, chances in general, double plays, assists, etc.,. Not putting Tram down, but Ozzie was the best defensive SS in the history of the game.

The only stats that are close are the defensive stats. Offensively Tram blows Smith out of the water. Look them up and tell me what you think.

and trammel didnt do backflips on the field
Disagree with the fielding percentage comment.

RE: Alan Trammell vs Ozzie Smith
Ozzie hits: 2,460
Tram hits: 2,365

Ozzie stolen bases: 580
Tram stolen bases: 236

There are two offensive catagories in which Trammel def. does not blow Ozzie out of the water....

you can disagree all you want, but fielding percentage means almost nothing. it's an outdated stat, as meaningless to measure how good a defensive player is as wins is to measure how good a pitcher is

Smith: 9,396 at bats, .262 batting avg, 28 hr, 793 rbi, 1,257 runs
Trammell: 8,288 at bats, .285 batting avg, 185 hr, 1,003 rbi, 1,231 runs

So the 344 more stolen bases Smith had equated to a whopping 26 more runs scored than Trammell!!!

Impressive,lol!

Fans only determine who the All-Star starters are. Managers pick the rest of their squad. You can't single-handedly blame Ripken for the fact Trammell only has 6 A.S. appearances to Ozzie's 15. That means there were 10+ seasons where he probably wasn't even the second-best shortstop in the AL.

oh lord....2 numbers that are "compiling" numbers

you want real stats?

how about OBP?

http://www.fangraphs.com/comparison.aspx...&type=full

OPS?
trammel: 767 smith: 666

you want old school numbers? how about homers and rbis?

rbi: trammel - 1003, smith 793
hr: trammel: 185 ozzie 28

trammell has about 30 less runs - in 1000 less at bats

and your evidence about hits? ozzie had 100 hits more than trammel - in 1000 less at bats

offensively, this isnt even the same ballpark
