I kind of wrestle with how much they matter. To me the final grade is what matters most, the end result. I guess some high end collectors prefer higher subgrades, but I don't see how higher subs can put a 100% premium on cards with the same overall grade. Seems that subgrades usually matter most to the sellers, who are trying to move their product rather than the buyer. JMO.

How much do subgrades really matter?

It matters for cards that graded low overall due to one bad subgrade and the rest really high. For instance I would rather have a BGS8 that has subgrades of 7, 9.5, 10, 9.5, then a BGS8 with all 8s for subgrades.
