So I'm over halfway with the 2011 Kimball Champions set, and am looking for my next challenge that I might be able to slowly get into...Looking for something a bit different. The Kimball Champions is a pretty cool, 150 card set with no real dollar value attached.
I love relic cards. I'm a sucker for them. So I've been looking into options on completing a game used set. My problem is that many of these game used sets (Allen and Ginter Relics, for example) have a TON of cards, and are valued around $10 per card.... Seems like a ton of cards, and a ton of dough to outlay.
Being a Cubs fan, I am wondering if perhaps I could collect relics of a certain set, but only Cubs players.... I think you refer to that as "team set collecting"? Right? This would mean that the cards would fewer, and I could potentially go after a big higher value (and hopefully cooler looking) card set.j
What experience do you have with this concept? Do you have suggestions on particular sets? It would be neat if I could make it a goal to complete this set every year.... I would probably want to outlay no more than $200 or $300 per year to complete the set.... Under 20 cards? Thoughts, suggestions, alternative ideas?
