too many sportscards-HELP!
I recently received my late father's cards.
So far I have "organized" about 70,000 sports cards and am about 1/3 of the way through. I haven't even got to the autographs yet. The Total Collection value so far is about 20k (including a lot of .05 cards). Do I really have to organize them into teams/ players, etc. before I try to sell them as a whole unit? About autographs, a lot of the auto cards were to my Dad, "To Don, from Chi Chi Rodriguez" etc., how do I price them? Should I make the collections public? I would like to sell them as a unit to help with my children's Bible college tuition. Sooo many cards and not enough time in the day. Thank you for any help. Daddy-Mac's Girl |

RE: too many sportscards-HELP!
Hi there,
I wish I was burdened with such a huge collection, haha ![]() I would have a hay-day going thorugh all those goodies! Organizing the cards on this site will give you an estimated value of the collection. You must take into consideration that people have likes/dislikes when buying in bulk. If you have $1000 in 5-75 cards, realistically you'd be lucky to get $20 for them. Some people build sets but most are out for player/team collections (mainly pack pulled autos/GU) Pesonalized Autos are a tricky subject. They could possible get attention if they are hand signed autos. They will get more attention if there's physical evidence of their authenticity. Auto cards made out to individuals (such as your father's) probably won't get much attention. Best bet is to keep them as sentimental value. Put them all in one big frame. As for the other cards, it's best to put them in class types opposed to teams. (Autographs, Game Used, Parallels, Inserts, Base, etc.) Unload all of the low end cards as one giant lot and consider yourself lucky if you sell it. Let me know if you need help as I've had success selling lots like this in the past. As for the mid-high end cards you are then provided with options to sell individually or as smaller lots depending on your target audience. Hope my insight helps a bit, cheers! ![]() MARIO LEMIEUX COLLECTION = 1263 listed cards |

Thank you for the advice! I am praying that I can unload all of these cards soon (within 2 weeks).

RE: too many sportscards-HELP!
I am kinda in the same boat. I had about 12k cards and only a few autos, x of x series, and the like.and because of my love for the hobby ( and because I won $500 off a $10 lotto scratch off ) I just bought 15k cards from my local hobby store). Now I realize the amount of time it is going to take me to sift through the lot. ( thank goodness I drove the four runner that day, the accord wouldn't have had the room).oops?.....lol!

RE: too many sportscards-HELP!
if it was me i would put them all into sets and then try and sell them a a lot set and for the personalized autos i would have to say that you should keep them for yourself as no one will buy them if they have someone else name on it
