Suggestions on scanner...
Hey guys,

I've never used a scanner before. I just want one to sell stuff on feebay and to trade on here.

What would you suggest for ease of use and quality. Looking to spend under $175

Thanks!

The cheapest one you can find...I got mine from Target for under $40

It scans well

It's an Epson I don't know the model or anything, I just put the card on the glass hit "scan" and upload to photobucket.

Truthfully you need to find one with a very high dpi, here are my specs:

Optical:2400 dpi x 4800 dpi1Interpolated:19,200 x 19,200 dpi

I also use Adobe Photoshop isn't included with the scanner. But basically the smaller the scanned area the higher the resolution. I do recommend scanning both sides of the cards which makes it easier to trade and sell since the trader/buyer will see both sides of the card. Its a habit for me now to just scan flip scan. Best Buy/Staples/Office Max type stores where you can browse online, find the best deal, then pick up in store.

If you want to scan something that's in a thicker plastic case or a graded slab, I would recommend grabbing a scanner that has a CCD sensor rather than CIS.

Here's an example with a CIS scan on the left and a CCD scan on the right:

Don't buy a Kodak. I have had so many problems with mine.

Why would he need one with such high DPI if he is posting them online?

If I am going to buy or trade with someone I would like to see imperfections on the card. I am very particular on the condition of my collection. If someone buys/trades a card and plans on sending it in to get graded that detailed scan helps. The specs are pretty much Max resolution and when you are scanning it only takes maybe 10 secs to scan in a higher dpi. It never hurts to provide more detail in any situation.
