My Fantasy Team

My Fantasy Team
My Fantasy Team Draft was held last night. It's a "total points" league instead of rotisserie or head to head. Here are my players:

G - Roberto Luongo, Ryan Miller, MA Fleury
D - Doughty, Seabrook, Suter, Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester
F - Thornton, Backstrom, Giroux, Skinner, Vanek, Dustin Brown, Eriksson, Marchand, Brayden Schenn
Bench - Jokinen, Souray, Erat, Weiss, Gomez, (who I put on waivers to try & claim Matt Moulson)

What do you guys think? I love my Goalies & D, but my forwards, while solid all around, don't have that "superstar".

By the way, here's the scoring breakdown in the league. This should give you a better indication of whether I'm good or I'm screwed:

Goals (G) 3
Assists (A) 2
Penalty Minutes (PIM) 0.3
Power Play Goals (PPG) 0.5
Short Handed Goals (SHG) 1
Game-Winning Goals (GWG) 1
Hat Tricks (HAT) 5
Shots on goal (SOG) 0.2
Power Play Points (PPP) 1
Wins (W) 3
Losses (L) -1
Goals Against (GA) -0.5
Saves (SV) 0.2
Shutouts (SO) 3
Overtime Losses (OTL) -0.5

Looks like forwards will be much more valuable than D or goalies in this league.

Assume this:

Forward gets 2 G, 2 A in a game. 1 G and 2 A are on the PP. 1 G is a GWG. And he has 8 shots on goal. That is an above average game for any star player, but still could easily be more:

2 G = 6 points
2 A = 4 points
1 PP G = .5 points
3 PP Points = 3 points
1 GWG = 1 Point
8 Shots = 1.6 Points
Total = 16.1 Points

Goalies. Assume shutout with 40 saves, which is an amazing game for any goalie:

Win = 3 points
Saves 40 = 8 points
Shutout = 3 points
Total = 14 points

Basically I see the forwards having great games much more often than the goaltenders. 4 point games with a ton of PP points are pretty common for the superstars of the league, where goalies have a handful of the 40 save shutout games. Majority of shutouts are with 20 shots on goal and the goalies don't have to work much.

I would trade from some superstars if you could. Even trade some of your Dmen for some bigger names. There is no shot block or hits category so Dmen aren't as valuable.

Wow, I was just going to say, nice team...how many total teams are you going against?

Can we post our teams on here for analysis as well, or would that be major thread-jacking?

You should. I commish 4-5 leagues through my website every year and everything depends on the categories chosen and point values assuming ts a points league.

If blocked shots are in there, then a guy like Dan Girardi could be as valuable as Ovechkin, depending on how much blocked shots are worth.

Or if hits are in there, Ovechkin is by far the most valuable player, because he gets a ton of hits as well as normal offensive points.

Same with faceoffs, a league that credits you for faceoffs won puts centers way ahead of everyone else.

RE: My Fantasy Team
Here's my small 8 team Yahoo! head-to-head pro league:

I think I really botched my D-men...with such a small league, picking 2nd, I should've snatched up 5 of the top 8-10 D-men early on, after taking Crosby and Ovechkin as my first two picks...

C
Sidney Crosby, Danny Briere

LW
Alex Ovechkin, Rick Nash

RW
Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa

D
Nicklas Lidstrom, Tyler Myers, Alexander Edler, Dustin Byfuglien

G
Corey Crawford, Jonas Hiller

Bench
Matt Duchene, Tyler Ennis, Logan Couture, Cam Fowler

Forwards/Defensemen Stat Categories: Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Penalty Minutes (PIM), Powerplay Points (PPP), Shots on Goal (SOG)

Goaltenders Stat Categories: Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Save Percentage (SV%), Shutouts (SHO)

Your team is looking pretty solid. Looks like you'll want to pick up a third goalie sometime though.

The only other thing which I hate it PIM. Youll have to pick up some moron who takes a ton of penalties, but also can get some points once in a while.

In my leagues, I always take out PIM or make them negative points if it is a points league. I hate wasting a spot for a guy who takes PIM or just a fighter.

RE: My Fantasy Team
Rice ..Briere is hurting you right now and with a star studded Flyers team I don't think he will get any where near as many points this season.....as for a guy to get you penalty points and points I picked up Clowe .......Montoya is probably still available in most leagues if you get a chance jump on him...just my opinion.........I am in a ton of leagues which can get quite hectic as I play both hockey and football ..
I would put Schenn on waivers as I think Couturier will stay up....Giroux will have an awesome season and so will Vanek.....if you don't want to put Schenn on waivers the although i AM A hABS FAN BE RID OF gOMEZ....
Don't kid yourself you have two superstars up front.....

Your best between the pipes is Miller.....Luongo won't have such a big season just a hunch he may get wins but that is because of the team in front of him...you will also see a huge drop in Thomas this season and Rask will get more looks.........Fleury is up in the air and can go either way but he has shown consistency......keep in mind these are just my opinions...

RE: My Fantasy Team
Looks like you got that superstar in Giroux. Nothing like having the league leader in points for a TP league!
