Sounds like upper deck wants a pat on the back for doing the same mediocre job they did last year and every previous year.
It's no longer a monopoly, maybe a cartel, that Upper Deck holds over hockey, but if Panini keeps putting out stuff like Dominion to compete with The Cup, I don't see Upper Deck making any major changes any time soon. At least when the cards do finally come out, they'll more often than not look nice. Am I defending UD?!?

There's auto rookies in artifacts? If you are talking about the rookie redemptions, those are put in for a good reason. The product comes out before all the top rookies will play, so to add them to the product, they make redemptions with the goal to have the top rookies play, so those can be the cards. It's actually a great idea.
Hockey PC's: Tomas Tatar, Alexander Burmistrov, Boris Valabik, Zach Bogosian
Football PC's: Titus Young, Jimmy Smith, Ed Dickson, Michael Oher, Flacco/Rice and Manningham/Henne dual cards.

On top of the Rookie Redemptions there will be autographed parallels.

Which aren't redemptions and aren't of the redemption rookies. At least from remember previous years.
Edit: You are right, new this year is the autograph redemption rookies. Which is probably similar the the regular rookies. They will be released probably around the same time as the regular rookies.
