Lockout Discussion

RE: Lockout Discussion
It is the owners' fault. You hand players money that they are not worth, make bad finacial decisions and then want to take it out on the employees.

The owners want projected profits and asset appreciation to rise. Stern had the magic touch in the '90s and these new owners want some of that magic too! Do most of you realize that Rashard "choke"Lewis and Hedo Turkey, and Gilbert "Gun Slingin" Arenas are some of the highest paid atheletes in the world!!!!

You can add Joe Johnson to that list of player after last year. Stern says they want a cap for competative balance, but OKC is making money on a (not an over the top) payroll and they made it to the WCF.

Guaranteed profit margins are almost non existant in the real business world, but these owners want that and are going to break the players union to get it.

RE: Lockout Discussion
I would agree that the owners are mostly to blame

RE: Lockout Discussion
I blame it on us and those that go to the games. I mean, the owners are to blame, but we're the suckers. They pay X total for their players, so they charge Y for the tickets. They win 40 games, so next year they charge Y+Z, and we still pay it. They win 41 games, they charge Y+2Z. We still pay it. They win 30 games, then they still charge Y+2Z. Then they win 40 games, so they charge Y+3Z. AND WE STILL PAY IT.

RE: Lockout Discussion
Exactly right. Which defeats their lame argument that smaller market teams are losing money. I live in central Florida. Went to Magic games and it didnt look like they were losing money. Okc is another small market team.
Despite what Howard and Durant get paid, both arenas are on fire.
The Grizzlies in Memphis are another small market that's rockin.
Even large markets where teams like the knicks do poorly in the season, people still come to the arena and buy their gear. If they want to play the -were losing money- card, lets see some audited financial statements, lol.

RE: Lockout Discussion
I just want to give them all a kick in the gonads lol... When did it stop being for the fan? You could tell years ago alot of the people were really out there for 1, love of the game, and 2, they loved to entertain the fans. Magic, jordan, and bird were a dying breed.

Personal Collections are as follows :
1) Knicks (anyone who has worn the jersey at one time or another and made a significant impact on the team.)
2) Latrell sprewell
3) Amare Stoudemire
4) Carmelo Anthony
5) Steve Nash
6) Chauncey Billups

I started writing something about taking Jordan out of those names because of his $33M+ for two years and how that shaped what players believe they deserve for their salaries. However, after reading some stuff, while I know MJ had some hand in getting that much money, I don't believe it to be entirely his fault.

I do find it sad that while NFL players have a much more dangerous sport, have more intense practices, and face more severe mental and physical injuries, 21 NBA players last year made more than $15M a year. I believe Peyton Manning is the top paid NFL player and he only got $15M last year. I don't personally think the NBA players deserve to up the average annual salary from $5M to $7M. I'm torn on the length of contracts though as I like to see loyalty, but seeing stuff like Hosa in the NHL sign a 12 year deal seems ridiculous if you ask me. I'm glad the players are at least willing to cut back some on how much they get of the revenue sharing, but I don't think 50/50 would hurt. I just so hope there's a season next year, and I would also love it to be a 10 year deal so I don't have to worry about this again for a good few years. Smile

RE: Lockout Discussion
i know xstream, im already wanting to watch some nba, last year was a great season imo. the rc class didnt standout as much as 09-10's class, but there was some good story lines, phils last season with la and them trying to 3 peat (woulda been phils 4th 3 peat), ofcourse the miami show (love/hate for the fans), knicks finally bouncing back, chicago reclaiming some dominance, blake griffin being a beast, kevin love raping the stats with his double doubles, sad injury woes for san antonio after being very dominant, durant going back to back with scoring titles, and im sure im leaving out some stuff.

Yeah, it was an awesome season. And believe me, I'd love to see what Knight is going to do to help get the Pistons out of the cellar. Smile

from what espn is saying it seems like there will be no season or the season will start later than the 99 lockout.

during the NFL lockout in the back of everyones head we all just felt like "this is going to be fine" we all just had a feeling there would always be a NFL season

in contrast everyone seems to be worried about the NBA and rightfully, IMO there is no season at all, although a few "experts" say they think it will result into a shortened season

my advice to the fans, enjoy the college basketball season and root for your team knowing that you can't count on an NBA season, maybe espn will end up broadcasting some NBDL games now lol

I ONLY collect in the following in this specific order:
1.) Patrick Ewing
2.) John Starks
3.) 1996-97, 97-98, 98-99 Skybox Autographics
4.) Durant/Kobe/Dwight/Jordan/Rose/Shaq $20+ BV
5.) Charles Oakley & Charlie Ward
