RE: should I jump off the Heyward train and sell my small collection?
yeah I agree. Stick with him. If you are looking for investment, the best times to sell are at the peaks of the market. So during the rookie hype, you could make money flipping his cards. Selling now, during a valley would not be wise. Once a player's rookie hype is over, the only real way to make an investment is long term with HOF hopes. Stick with him and hope his career is long and productive.

If you are just collecting him because you plan on reselling later on to make a profit, then you shouldnt be collecting in the first place. If you are collecting him because you like him as a player, then who cares if he gets injured.

I personally don't collect with the plan to resell for profit or even close...I do it because I enjoy it but I also do think about "well if I get into trouble moneywise, what could I get rid of and at least make some of the money back" -- thus I try to collect cheaper stuff in more quantity that I enjoy and the more expensive stuff to maintain value. and who wants to invest tons of money into a player they enjoy for 1 1/4 seasons only to then have them riddled by injuries and never amount to anything further. aka. flopping in the sport. I consider that reasonable to ask. I would just hold on to them. The Braves will most likely go to the world series this year.. who knows what can happen then.

They may want to worry about winning their division first. Currently 3rd place in their division and 4 games out of first. Seems like a bold assumption from there to the world series. If your looking to invest, Id go with Silver or other precious metals. If your looking to collect Jason Heyward because you like him as a player then I would keep them. If you collect someone else, dump the heywards to beef up that player collection. There might not be a chance to do that later if something happens to him, god forbid. Not a braves fan, I just wouldnt wish any rising star to do poorly and flop in the future. EXCEPT REDSOX ROOKIES, lol Still biding my time, waiting for Pedroia and Youkilis to "flop" haha

Also, there isnt a single person that can predict how many injuries Heyward or any player will have in his career. So unless he has a major injury, which he hasnt, I wouldnt stop collecting a player I really liked just because he is going on the 15 day DL. So unless all someone cares about is the money, I just dont see how you could already be anxious to sell all of your cards of him. Obviously, only my opinion. ![]() Collecting: Alfonso Soriano and Boston Red Sox |

RE: should I jump off the Heyward train and sell my small collection?
If you are looking to sell; this is the wrong time --- his prices and demand are probably at the low ebb and you're selling into a buyer's market.
I'd hold on and see if he can get hot again just to get back towards break even. But this is a terrible time to sell him or Gordon Beckham (Remember him) and many others etc. Good rule of thumb, sell into a seller's market --- sell on way up -- and if you really like the player, 99 of 100 times you can buy his cards back cheaper when the interest peaks Rich |
