RE: 1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt Black Box - How rare is it?
Tomorrow will be a game changer folks! There will be a ten day auction on eBay for the Holy Grail! The post office will be delivering my newly graded cards from PSA. PSA has already informed me that the 1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt 702A Black box that my son pulled, was graded a Gem Mint PSA 10! I wish he could b here to enjoy this! He was killed in a car accident three days after finding this card. This was his second Witt with the first selling in January for $843! Lucky for everyone is, he liked to talk and I listened so I have a lot of information on this card. The pallets came from an Upper Deck printer. I spoke with the printer for an hour the other day. He was running the line that the Reggie autographs were inserted into. The first pallet was pre-production and the first few days of testing the Reggie insertion. That explained all the bent Reggies! The second pallet was cherry picked cases throughout the early run. This pallet has cases that are all marked. They date from August 12, 1990 to August 16, 1990. I will be selling boxes for the next few day on eBay. These cases have a Reggie Autograph ratio of 1:3. The guy told me that the Witt was a ghost in the machine. It was a morning ghost since it showed up at the beginning of each run. Most sheets were pulled. He said that about 20-30 Witts ended up in packs. The Witt ghost problem was solved in mid August. The Witt was suppose to be in the set but an executives wife did not like the card. She did not like the way he was looking at the photographer. I can see where she was going. He was probably just flirting with the photographer. From the back photo it appears that he was excited to see her too! Well, there will be a reserve on this card. The winnings will be paying for my sons tombstone. His memorial service is in August so this card will be sold just in time! Thank you, Les
