jim...try a site like junk wax gems! it may not be the biggest site (in terms of followers) but they are knowledgeable (and NO its not my site or anything...i have nothing to gain!) also, the 1990 fleer dave martinez yellow error, much rarer than the thomas...there are also 5 or 6 baltimore orioles 1990 fleer cards without the '90 on front (may have been promos) that supposedly only 5 of each were ever made!

There was a guy on the old boards that had a sticky thread for errors and variations... he was REALLY knowledgable about this stuff and kept tabs on just about every error and variation imaginable. Some of it was popular stuff (the Thomas NNOF, etc...) and some was VERY tedious (1990 Donruss with no "tm" by the AL logo, etc...)

I wasn't saying the Thomas was more rare. I was saying that I personally could care less about an error card of Mike Witt and I don't understand how someone can pay so much for one of his cards. Regardless of scarcity. I have a 1/1 dog turd, but that doesn't mean it's desirable. If someone else is trying to complete some master set, that is their prerogative, I'm just saying for an error card to have any significance to me it had better be of a top notch player from an important set. Again, as I said before, to each his own.

love this thread also, crazy that a player like mike witt can have a card that sells for $1300

but then again for the era these were from errors were king and this was the rarest of the rare of the rare.

That is an insane amount of money for that card, congrats on the sale.

Makes me want to go pick up a black paint pen and make some boxes on my regular Mike Witt version of this card. (JOKING!, but seriously how could you tell the difference?)

if you had the regular version of the mike witt without the black box and you used a paint pen to color a black box on you, error and variation collectors would probably string you up for treason for defacing what would be the first known copy with no black box on it.

The difference is, no one has ever saw the regular Witt without the box. So no one even has that one. This one is pretty much impossible to find in packs.
