What do you consider "vintage"?
Was just wondering if there is a consensus on what is considered to be "vintage" in the baseball card world. Pre-1980? Pre-1975, maybe? My favorite players (that I grew up watching) played most of their careers in the 80s, so I know their cards aren't considered vintage. Just curious to see what everyone's thoughts were. Thanks!
Collect Kirk Gibson (Tigers), Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell, Jack Morris (Tigers), Lance Parrish (Tigers), Sparky Anderson (Tigers), Tom Brookens (Tigers), as well as earlier Tigers greats like Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Mickey Lolich, Willie Horton, etc. |

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
I think for the most part it's anything pre 1980 and I'm not really sure about that either. My thinking is early 70's and later. I had to look and see what the rest of the internet people had to say and found these.

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
Not sure what the definition is, but IMO I consider it 1980 or earlier.

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
Vintage is far too broad a term to cover nearly 130 years and several specific eras of Baseball, A rule of thumb is the 25 year mark and that would make any cards pre 1987 Vintage but mostly in name only.
A slow Shipper, if not acceptable, then NO Trade please...Mel Looking for the following: Older Players Jimmie Foxx, Ty Cobb, Bob Feller, Walter Johnson, Joe Jackson, Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Rogers Hornsby, Christy Mathewson, Ike and Bob Boone. New Brett/Aaron Boone, Jered Weaver, Brandon Webb. |

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
Thanks, guys. I appreciate your posts; and thanks for the links, too, 54Killebrew74. I'm returning to Beckett after a few years, and haven't done much collecting lately, but getting back into the game (at a low level), so I look forward to getting to know you all.

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
To me, vintage for common cards is pre-1980, but can extend into the 80's, be it the right player (Ripken, Gwynn, Henderson, etc).
I collect 1977-Present Baseball of any team, especially the Braves (NL) and the Red Sox (AL). Considering an expansion into vintage. I am slowly adding cards and wants to my org. |

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
For me it's when they stopped bringing cards out in series. I think 1973 was the last baseball brought out in series. So pre 1974 seem like vintage.

RE: What do you consider "vintage"?
I will say anything pre 1980.. I personally consider cards prior to topps in 1951 to be relics and anything in the 1800's to be antiques. But thats just me.
Always on the lookout for pre '85 cards. |
