Im a little jealous
Ok before I go on with this thought that I got going on in my mind right now, just know this ain't no crybaby mess going on right now.
I just want to know how I can stomp with yall big dogs. I don't see a whole lot getting traded but autos and while I do have a few (I've been getting blessed busting 07-08 Hot Prospects boxes. Acie Law and some other guy Aaron Gray I think, a Kobe GU and Durant rookie.) You guys obviously got some serious money if you're busting Exquisite. And looking at what I would let an Allen or Rondo or Rose or MJ auto go for, I wouldn't necessarily be interested in Law or Bobby Simmons or Jordan Farmar. I ain't hating Im just feeling slightly *sniff sniff* left out. LOL Im Just Sayin |

RE: Im a little jealous
I love busting packs. Busting boxes, not so much and I don't have the extra money. I would love to bust a case(saving up now).
Right now, I am slowly buying some singles. They say that buying expensive packs, boxes, and cases are for the HIT gamblers. Some do it to complete their sets. Think of this... If the low-end hobby box will contain an insert card that is #'d to 99 and the high-end box will also contain an insert card that is also #'d to 99... Which one will you buy? Most products will have a guaranteed hit. Like Donruss compared to Limited and so on. Of course, everyone must check the product breakdown and the checklist before attempting to buy. Although, I often see that most basketball boxes(hobby, retail, HTA, blaster, and so on) will have guaranteed hits or on average hits. My two cents. Thanks for reading. ![]() I will miss you bbills1999 Where are you XstreamInsanity/Jason? |

RE: Im a little jealous
Shawn, don't worry - not everyone here bust high-end. Living in Australia, the stupid imposed conversion rate (set by previous govt at Us$0.53 when our dollar crashed back in 2001) plus the fact that I get by on a Disability pension means I can't afford to get the big stuff. So I just settle with what i can pick up either via trade or from my local comic/card shop.
![]() Collect Patrick Ewing, Jalen Rose, Kevin Garnett, LaMarcus Aldridge, Jeff Green if you have less than 25 trades, I will ask you to send first. |

RE: Im a little jealous
Awww guys LOL Thanks taffster. I meant to shout you out on our trade. Did it get there yet? I mainly bust retail blaster a couple Hobbys here and there. In the past month i've pulled some autos and GU's. The boxes I buy though are all on sale. I also put myself on a sort of strike from panini products so I've been getting old surplus product which, on the flipside, is cool cuz it's almost all upper deck!
Oh yeah. I almost forgot, the one card shop we do have seems to be all about Magic and yugioh so sports really isn't on his list. He's got cards that have been in that case so long they're getting sunbleached (92 Pinnacle Griffey Jr. Slugfest!) And the card show like I said in a previous thread, was very thin........... Oh well Becketts there for me |

RE: Im a little jealous
When I got back into collecting about 18 months ago, I had just one game used card (Iverson) and four autographs (Jermaine O'Neal, Erick Barkley, Donell Harvey, Jamal Crawford) in my collection.
However, I started buying a few bargain singles that I liked. I then traded these for nicer cards. I started spending more and trading frequently. Before long, I had a great collection which didn't cost me the earth. My legendary players PC: http://will23c1982.smugmug.com/Sports/Ha...&k=7MppBJw

RE: Im a little jealous
Honestly, I buy more retail than anything. Hoping to change that soon. I had the same sentiment when I first got on these boards and others; "How am I ever going to be able to trade when they have high end and I have a lot of low end." A couple ways to do it is to sell the cards you don't want that you're having a hard time trading and don't worry about if you get BV or 1/5 BV, just get the money. Then you can buy the singles you want or buy singles to trade, or go for lots. Also, with that money, you can save up and try to buy hobby boxes online. I am really wanting to get about $300-$400 so that I can buy a combo deal on dacardworld. They sometimes have great deals of 3-4 boxes and you save $100+ almost every time. Sometimes there might be a box or two in there that you really don't want, but when you get a chance to pull a nice AU or GU to trade, that's always worth it. And as far as busting the really high end, if you're wanting to do that for PC, then that's cool. If you're doing it for trade bait, from what I've noticed, it ain't worth it. I've seen people buy a $600 box and get $200 worth of cards. might as well spend that $600 on singles and get $1000 worth of cards. Just my thoughts.

RE: Im a little jealous
Collect what you can afford on your budget. Stick to a consistent theme and don't try to collect everything and you will be fine. You will end up with a nice collection to show off.
You will find a great mix of people here from young to old who have varying levels of incomes. If you are younger, someday you hopefully have more income to blow on cards. That being said, before dropping a penny on cards I highly recommend that everyone here of working age put at least 10% of you salary into some sort of investment (mutual/index funds). You will never get rich off of cards and 50 years from now when you are looking to retire, the next generation will not care if you have the #to 5 refractor auto of some player they have no emotional connection to. Save for yourself and children first first and then buy cardboard. No one else will take care of you including the government. Otherwise you will be eating Alpo in your old age or be a working slave until you die (which is what the system is now set up for). J Collecting Basketball Autographs |

Even last year I was making 1/5 less than what I'm making now, so I was being stupid and buying cards without saving (even though I NEVER plan to sell my cards). Now I can save and splurge.
