Best for bulk grading, BGS or PSA?
Hi everyone, I was curious to know which grading company you'd prefer for a large bulk grade? I've used both, personally I prefer BGS, but PSA for vintage.

Well, there is BCCG which is not as great as BGS (not even close if you ask me because they aren't even in sleeves) but the cards would be slabbed with an approximate grade (no subgrades). It's mostly suggested for people who grade sets on a regular basis, not for PCs, unless your PCs are sets. One day I'll have all of my sets and Pistons PC graded. When I win the lotto, BGS will get half of it and I'll pay them an extra $50,000 to halt all other orders until mine are done.

Well, I've gotten most of my high end MJ and Olajuwon PCs graded already, I'm going to say around 100 so far. Most have been through BGS because it's a driving distance from where I live because I worry about shipping. I want to send more of my PCs to get graded because at some point I may consider selling my MJ collection, for the most part I've been picking up better shape cards of some that I have for that same reason. I think I'm going BGS because that's what I've gotten more of and I've been pleased with the grades so far. |

RE: Best for bulk grading, BGS or PSA?
Yeah, I wasn't really suggesting BCCG, just stating.
I just wish Beckett/BGS had a better option for people who wanted a lot of cards graded. I want the slab. I want the card description label. I don't care too much about the grade, but if authentication and grading cost the same, might as well get the grade. But the best option I've seen is 100+ at a 45 day turn around for $7 a card, not including insurance or shipping. I've always had this dream of sending in my 4 boxes of Pistons cards (2720+ different Pistons cards) to BGS for them all to be graded, and then two months later, have a UPS truck stop in front of my house and having to drop boxes, and boxes, and boxes of BGS cards on my front door. I could imagine opening up one box and seeing all of my cards, in order (preferably) graded and protected. However, 2720 @ $7 a pop is $19,000+ (again, not including shipping and insurance) and I just don't have that money. Plus, my PC is worth half that. Now, my sets, those I might do BCCG just because, but then I'd have a storage issue and it isn't as pleasing showing someone your set when you have to go card by card, especially the older sets with 600+ cards in them. lol. But I digress.

RE: Best for bulk grading, BGS or PSA?
PSA usually has better monthly specials. Many times a year you can get 50+ cards for $4 or $5 a card.
If you only need a few modern cards go BGS. If you have a mix of old and new and quite a few go PSA. Personnally I use PSA almost excluively just because they have an active set registry. BGS killed their registry and the tried to bring it back, however most people left the ship so it is essentially dead. Collecting Basketball Autographs |
