WOULD ANYONE PAY 80 cents.
Do it online. If you send it Priority through paypal its free. First class it is a whopping 19 cents.

I still dont get HOW i can see people saying they pay 80 cents for DC !!!!!!!![hr

Not everyone has the privilege of having things such as printers, ect. I for example have to pay 80 cents for confirmation at the post office because I do not have access to a printer from my laptop.

I once tried doing shipping from home, but it's easier for me to go down to the post office and not have to worry about the fact that the scale would not match up with theirs in random spurts. If I were a full time Ebay business then sure, perhaps it would be cost efficient to look into setting things up to run well oiled all from home, but I sell on Ebay "on the side" like most people.

buying a cheap printer and doing it on line will save you $$ quickly with savings in DC and gas..
It really is easy and you do not have to be a big seller to use the service.
A cheap postage scale is a $$ saver too, you stop adding postage.
Or...you can just guess and be on the heavy side and skip the scale.
If you do 5-10 mailing a week, a cheap printer and online will actually save you $$..I doubted too and resisted for a lont time until I got use to it.
Now I even send heavy boxes of 100s of cards from home using my digital scale and on line postage.
I have not been to the PO in over 90 days

I see where above it had said it was 19 cents for tracking. So, sorry I doubted you there.

But I still don't see where I can actually choose it on the shipping label print page.

Its asking me for weight.

So when I arbitrarily stick in 1 ounce, the postage drops to 1.22, and delivery confirmation is 19 cents like you said.

I guess then that I can drop my postage on light items, and that 2.50 would actually cover it until I have to pack a heavier package.

So, I'll start doing that when I start relisting the ones that would obviously be covered by that.

Thanks.
You can add a peanut to the middle of the package if you are concerned.
I porint the postage, cut the label and attach to teh padded envelope BEFORE I put in the items, then I seal the end with tape and off I go..The PO even lost a DC of mine and they found it..I was worried because it was picked up at the house mail box, but they said that is WHEN the DC started, so I was covered.
Good luck and see if does not make life easier..

What about that 3/4 inch thickness requirement from the post office? Ever had any difficulties with that? Do you think I will still have to stuff them with some rolled up bubblepop to meet the requirement?

Pyweed, I bought a card off of you last week (Alex Dickerson Platinum relic autograph) and couldn't have been happier with the transaction. I gave you all 5's. I know it sucks but there are people who appreciate you selling on ebay!

If you use the smallest size bubble mailers, the ones they sell in 10 packs at Walmart, having a card or cards in a topload inside makes it rigid enough where they are nonmachinable. Being nonmachinable is basically the same as being 3/4 inch thick. I haven't encountered one instance of this being false in over five years of operating an eBay store. If you are worried about it you can insert a packing peanut to bulk it up or slip in a piece of cardboard to make it too rigid.

I walk to the post office, gives me the excuse to exercise.

The only money I would save would be cheaper delivery confirmation, which if I were to increase sales per week would add up printing at home I am sure.

I had a postage scale, but it never would match up with my local post office when I would weigh the same packages. Perhaps I could walk to the post office, weigh the packages and then walk back home to print, then there is exercise and I save a little money, but that doesn't really simplify things at all ha ha.

RE: eBay's tyranny of the loony
Check this out. I won a .99 cent card the other day, with $3.00 shipping. I get it, in a pwe, with a .44 cent stamp. The card isnt in a pennysleeve, just a ratty yellowed toploader, with old tape on it. It wasn't taped shut though, he recycled the toploader. When I asked why he charges $3.00 shipping for it, he tells me he had to take the time to write my address and put the card in the toploader. What mighty jobs those were. The card was 3/4 of the way out of the toploader and destroyed. Granted it was only .99 cents, but that doesn't mean I have to get a worthless card. He isn't QVC, where he uses fork trucks to load pallets, and has to pay employees to warehouse items. I left him a 1 and he deserved it. Thats the only time I ever left a mark lower than 4 before in over 500+ transactions.

RE: eBay's tyranny of the loony
costs me $1.75 to ship a 3 oz card when i buy the postage online, print it out and glue to the bubble mailer. i bought 100 bubble mailers for $15 shipped, plus whatever ink i use. probably costs me $2 to ship. that and i can either leave it in the mailbox for the postman to pickup, or i can drop it in the post office box at my school in the morning. no lines, no waiting and i save around .70 per shipment. ive also never heard a complaint about the 3/4 inch crap, probably because it would just take more effort to return it to me then to just deliver it. dunno why anyone still goes to the PO to ship...

RE: eBay's tyranny of the loony
I dont know if anyone is aware of this or not but starting soon Ebay fees will include the total amount of the sale and the shipping costs. It is a way for them to try to get people to lower their shipping costs. Some people dont realize that shipping includes padded envelopes, tape, printer paper, ink for your printer, gas to the post office, actual postage for the item and time spent. To ship a 1 to 3 card envelope weighing 2oz's postage plus delivery confirmation is $1.58. The envelope alone is 48 cents so I usually charge $2.50 for shipping. I have gotten comments asking why my shipping is so high. Go figure!! Great post by the way

I don't think it's necessarily to get people to lower their shipping cost, so much as to get their piece from people who try to pad their shipping cost in order to get some profit. Shipping is all over the board on there, really.

By doing this, they also don't penalize the people who offer free shipping.
