Baseball HOF vs Football HOF
I've been looking to add to my HOF rookie card pc and decided to check out some football. Football was my first collecting passion in the 70's because no one in my family really watched baseball. I wish I still had those cards. Gave most to my brothers when I went into the service and have no idea what they did with them. Afraid to ask. I have noticed that football HOF rookie cards are very affordable in decent grades unlike baseball. Even from the 50's. Just curious as to why this may be so. Opinions anyone? Also going to post this on the vintage football thread.

RE: Baseball HOF vs Football HOF
While there have been card collectors from all sports since the beginning baseball was the spark that set the fire in the early 80's when the boom started. There are investors that have large collections and know nothing about the fun/hobby side of what they have. The look at it like gold/silver or stocks. They sure help drive the price up. Also there are more baseball collectors that the other sports. Football may be as popular but there are more old guys collecting baseball. The old guys are usually the ones with the money to compete for the high grade cards again driving up prices. Also football really didnt take off till the late 80's. so baseball had a good 5-8 year jump in the boom years. My cousins gave me their football cards from the 70's. I had some from the early 80's. I remember trading them 84. I took them to many local card shops and nobody even wanted football then. I found one shop that traded me a box of 1984 Donruss for my whole collection. Funny too because I have an old pic of a card house I built when I was prolly 7 or 8, I can see 3 Joe Montana RCs in it lol......
