Conditional card values
Hi, I collected trading cards as a kid and kept them all of these years. Vandals broke into my home and some of the cards, damaging many of them. The kids were caught, confessed, and charged. Now, I need to create a list of damages in hopes of getting restitution from the parents. I think grading is irrelevant at this point, so I just need to get values of the damaged cards from a credable reference like Beckett. Can someone explain the difference in the general prices listed next to each card vs the conditional prices listed after clicking on an individual card. Also, is there a legend of the abbreviations that are not so obvious? Thanks, Gerry

RE: Conditional card values
WOW sorry to here that. As far as personally grading your cards the best way is buy a monthly so you can get the differnt grades and tells you what quallifies for that grade. next is the next best thing add the cards to your organize and from the conidition they were to what they are now. My thought is they screwed you over big time so do the same to them. Bring in the worst of the cards and tell them this is what they caused and get full bv off of theese scum bags.

Lets say for example you had a 1960 Mantle approx value 1600 mint but yours had soft corners so we will call it a personal grade 7 bv 400-500 now you have creases and tore so now a personal grade is poor. which you might get 40-50 dollars. It would be 350- 450 value differnce that is what I would charge the parents. or you could be like them and tell them 1500.00 difference and stick it to them.

if they are good kids I would probley go with the lower end if they were punks then I would go on the higher end. Their actions speak louder than words. Are they truely sorry or just saying it.

RE: Conditional card values
Oh wow!! $500.00 that's all?? Some years back my home was broken into and they stole some of my cards not all, but the damage that was caused was astronomical. How can anyone place a monetary value on your child-hood memories?? Those cards to you, have no value there price-less!!!So I agree with Wayne put your hold up mask on and screw them good. But in the future my best advice to you is to insure your collection and put your higher end cards in a safety deposit box at the bank. Like I do.

RE: Conditional card values
Thanks again guys, for your help and comments. Glad I'm not in Ohio. I'm not sure there is a limit here in Florida. The damage was enough that their mug shots and names were made public despite the fact that they are juveniles. Yes, the cards dated back to 1952, and the value is way past the insurance company's limits on collectibles. And, you're absolutely right, many things are irreplaceable.

I still have the paper and the picture of my MUG SHOT when I was 15 for assault and battery. He was 35.

RE: Conditional card values
Try this out. Look at the bottom corner for the percentage guide. You should be able to compare values before the damage to values after the damage. If you need a pdf version, just email me and give me your personal email address and I will send it.

Beckett used to have this online, but I can't find it any longer. I had to pull out an old magazine to get it. You would think something as basic as this would be very easily available!!!!!! This is a pricing website after all.

RE: Conditional card values
parents can be sued for up to $3000 in Ohio for damages caused by their children. also, since the child is under 18, they can be sued once they turn 18 because the statute of limitations on the action doesn't begin to run until the age of majority.

RE: Conditional card values
lol yeah I think it has gone up. I've been a juvenile prosecutor for around 6 years and I'm positive it is $3000 right now.
