What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
I've had a couple of sets on my mind recently, those being 1957 Topps and 1953 Bowman Color. I am not a set collector really. I've only completed one vintage set so far and that would be 1973 Topps though I am only two cards away on the 1968 Topps Game set. It almost killed me doing '73. I love the cards but I have a short attention span and I am not very patient.
Anyway, '57 Topps and '53 Bowman Color appeal to me in a very big way. I guess I love simple cards. There are no frills to either set, just great photography. Today I bought my first two '53 Bowman Colors. I will have to collect the set in VG or less condition due to the relatively high prices. It's less than 200 cards, so it shouldn't kill me to complete it. Not the same with the '57s. I love that set and I hope I don't get burned out before I get done with it. That's what happened when I attempted the '67 set. So, what sets do you have on your mind and what's holding you back? Interested in EX-MT or better pre-'56 Cardinals, '53 Bowman Color & '74-'78 Topps. http://s606.photobucket.com/home/jalbregts |

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
I'm right there with you on the short attention span. I started the '55 set back about 10-12 years ago. Lots of short bursts of pickups followed by very (emphasis on the word "very") long periods of time of nothing doing. I'm about 5 cards shy of the set. I still need the Clemente but after that it's just some high number commons.
I've considered the '53 Bowman Color as well but I always think to myself that with the money I put into commons, I could buy some nice HOFers or type cards. It's a never ending battle with myself and my collection focus. |

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
Well I have a 55 Bowman set and a Topps run from 1973-2010. So currently Im working on 1972 (not a priority yet). Im also only 10 or so away on my 1965 Embossed set. I also have 300 or so for the 1960 set. On the prewar side I have 20 or so from the 1941 Playball set. I like to really make a go at that but I think the Dimaggio & Williams will make it tough on me.

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
The 61 topps set is what I have been working on and I have only a few dozen so far. I want to also complete the 59 Fleer Ted Williams which is 40/80 complete. I have been buying cases of hockey cards the last few months. I'm not buying on E-bay and collecting via trading has been very slow.

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
I would like to give the '63 and '65 Topps sets in EX condition a go but I also suffer from a short (very short) attention span. My vintage Phillies PC that I started a little over a month ago that I told myself I would be focused on has now included some HOFers. I agree that with the price of commons I would like to get some nice graded stars.
Set builder thats also looking for all vintage Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia A's. Phillies team sets finished: 1952 Bowman, 1959 Topps |

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
I go back and forth, one day I think I'll just focus on vintage Reds then the next day I want to complete topps sets. I like the 59 topps but being a college kid, I don't have a whole lot of money so focusing on the Reds seems like that would be the better choice as of right now.

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
I pretty much had a complete 57 Topps set all around Near Mint amongst other stuff when I was a kid that my dad got me about 20 years ago but it was lost/stolen/sold over the years not really sure what my parents did with my original collection
I was able to find a few of the cards in my mom's garage when I got back into collecting in 07 or so but traded those off to PhoenixRising when he was building the set ![]() My Bucket - w/ Select Trade Scans |

RE: What Sets Are You Thinking Of Attempting?
I'm trying to put together the 76 Topps set, as it was the first year I started collecting. I'm one of the lucky ones whose Mom did not throw their cards out!
I have most of the major stars, REALLY lacking on the commons though. I have bought a few lots off the bay, but whatever I buy lot-wise now is sure to have a lot of dupes in it. Anybody know of a good source to buy commons where you can list the ones you need? Or does anybody on here have any for trade or sell? Thanks. Collecting past and present Redsox

Give me a little time and I'll see what '76s I have.
