BGS registry plans / strategy?
Hi, I'm curious if anyone knows if Beckett has any plans to grow their registry, make it better, market it, etc. I am not a PSA member but from what I hear their set registry is a big "value add" to their customers and in fact why many people buy PSA cards (so they can show off their collections).
Somethings I have seen that I like about PSA registries are their key card sets and HOF sets, which I don't think BGS has. One last point--it seems like there are more than a few BGS registries that are no longer active / up to date, isn't there a way for Beckett to remove them? It seems to defeat the purpose of ranking registries when half the registries don't exist anymore because cards were sold off. My analogy is that it's like playing fantasy football against an opponent who doesn't manage their team actively ![]() just some thoughts... |

RE: BGS registry plans / strategy?
Awesome points and I'm the first to agree with you. I participate in both Registries and I have no problem stating that the PSA Registry is light years ahead of BGS's.
I hope Beckett looks at the following features that have helped make PSA's Registry the best in the business. 1) Quick Add feature. Just enter the card number and it gets added to any applicable sets you are collecting. 2) The ability to create your own registries, (i.e. the key card sets and HOF sets mentioned above). 3) Place a focus on set completion .... offer prizes, free grading certificates, etc., to those collectors who finish or complete their sets. Make it competitive and a source of pride. Over at PSA, they have a collectors Hall of fame and annual Banquet. At BGS they shut down their registry and then ignore collectors for almost 2 years. Which Registry do you want to be a part of to show your collection off? For the record, I have always preferred BGS for their slabs and the strictness of their grading. The old BGS Registry was more than adequate but sadly far behind PSA's Registry. Somebody at Beckett needs to take control of this "new and improved" Registry, respond to the concerns of customers and collectors who support the BGS brand, and make it a site that hobbyist are excited to log into everyday. Oh and one final point, I know a number of former BGS collectors who currently own the top registry for this player or that set. They no longer have the cards (due to BGS's recent debacle with their new website a couple of years ago). Yet they are still listed as the top registry. I'd hate to be the person who is trying to enter all of those cards. |

Agreed. Anyways, it looks like we won't be getting any responses / news /updates from anyone at Beckett. which is disappointing but maybe not surprising...

RE: BGS registry plans / strategy?
Believe if people look below in the 'Beckett Grading Registry" forum I made a post on Feb 9th regarding this subject matter,,,,,
The NEW registry is more complex and entails more than just transferring cards over,,,, its got new hardware that it needs to be transferred to,,,, new software programmed from scratch that will be running it,,,, and has more new databases in it than the old one had,,,,, now that the regular website of Beckett.com including message boards has been fixed the marketplace is next and registry LAST,,,,, I can tell people without giving away the farm that ideas put forth by many experienced registry users are all in the bag of tricks being worked on,,,, New ways to create registries, new ways to display, and other niceties,,,,, I can't say more,,,, but its all part of it,,,, Jeff SUGGESTIONS SUBMIT IT HERE !!
