Hey everyone I just wanted to get an idea why everyone collects who they do. So many people on here aren't after star players but the guy who plays on the checking line or the player the coaching staff scratches every other game. It's nice to see that theres a market for those guys.
I personally collect getzlaf because he was a rookie when I started to follow hockey. I appreciated he was a team player and would rather make the pass then go for the shot.

I began collecting Maxime Talbot because of his tenasity of play. He is a hard worker and does a lot of the little things that are needed. On top of that, he is absolutely hilarious. I began collecting himm his rookie year and currently have 163 of his 171 cards.

I am collecting Jaroslav Halak. I saw him in his first game one night when I was working in a bar here in Halifax. He made a ridiculous amount of fantastic saves, won the game that he did not deserve to win, and also won the hearts of the Habs fans out there. He then became the rightful successor to Carey Price, despite being slandered and demeaned by Bob Gainey. I think that moving him to St. Louis was way too soon, and Price needed a bit of a stint in Hamilton, but so far Gainey looks like a genius (I know that Pierre Gauthier "made" the move, but he's Gainey's lackey!). I still enjoy watching Halak when I can and hope that I can garner his cards at a better pace. Great thread!

I collect Anze Kopitar, Jack Johnson, and Drew Doughty cause they are my favorite players on the my favorite hockey team, the LA Kings. I used to live in LA and have followed the kings since before the Gretzky days. I also tend to collect guys that have played in the WHL (like Getzlaf and others).

I collect Michal Neuvirth. Im a long time caps season ticket holder, and I go up for a ton of games to see the Hershey Bears. Neuvy won us two straight calder titles, and his swagger is insane. He holds grudges, and if you piss him off he will not let you even sniff a goal. Made a point to demolish Jonathan Bernier in the playoffs last year, and has shut out Pittsburgh twice in a row since "disco dan" decided to trash him on national TV. Plus he looks like Bjork

Sorry Wes- but it was the WBS Penguins he shut out twice.. ...as 11 of the regular roster are out.... We'll see come Playoffs!

I collect Patrick Roy because grew up idolizing him(on the ice only) and the way he played the game with such intensity and cockyness. I was a goalie back from Novice to Peewee and always wanted to be like him. The '93 playoffs were a huge selling point for me. I followed him from MTL to COL and always cheered for him. Ever since he has been out of the league I have not really ever cheered for one team.

I still always laugh when ever I see "the wink" see avatar. Also no better quote “I can’t really hear what Jeremy says because I’ve got my two Stanley Cup rings plugging my ear.”

I collect Mike Modano because when the Stars moved to Dallas, I was lucky enough to have a friend's dad with season tickets. He was 23 and I was 13 and I couldn't believe anyone could skate like that. Living in Dallas, I never got a chance to play until years later, but Mike was the reason I love hockey as a game, and as a collector. I've been to many of his franchise moments...wish I could have been in SJ, but I have many memories of number 9 that will never leave me, including the chance to put my hands on Lord Stanley's Cup.
