Seller/Collector or Collector/ Seller
I collect baseball cards and yes enjoy the value aspect of them like the little mini stock market for crack addicts that it can be, not my fault I was exposed to Beckett as a young child. I enjoy busting boxes of cards, but I only collect very specific things that I think are cool. Therefore, to continue feeding my habit I also sell baseball cards. However, lately I have started noticing that when I go to buy a baseball card on a website where I also sell, that the other sellers who use BUY IT NOW or BEST OFFER types of options are hostile when they deal with me. I send very reasonable best offers, my low number first as any looking to deal would do (usually around what the overpriced item goes for in auction on average) and I wait for the counteroffer. But then instead of a counter offer I tend to get declines and grumpy toned responses to e-mails because I guess they believe I am trying to cheat them out of their item to resell myself. My good reputation as a seller is giving me a bad reputation as a collector? ha ha Just wondering if anyone else has fallen into similar ruts of hassle, being denied the private collection goodies they seek.

RE: Seller/Collector or Collector/ Seller
I've been running into this as well. For example: I collect Micah Gibbs. Not a big name prospect but I like him because he went to LSU and then got drafted by the Cubs. I bought his 1/1 Donruss on ebay for 150. He is trying to sell the /5 for 199. I offered him a little low at first to begin negotiating. I got no response just a denial. I offered again a little higher and he sent back to quit offering low that he was only going to take 199. I explained that I'm really the only Gibbs collector out there and the 1/1 went for 150. That was 3 weeks ago and no response. Hate to tell him but he ain't gonna get 199 nor is he probably going to get any higher than what I offered the 1st time, much less the 2nd.

Looking for Ryne Sandberg, Micah Gibbs, and Cubs Topps commons.
Now using paypal shipping so everyone will get a DC number and no more trips to P.O.!

I don't understand why people get offended by offers? if you don't like an offer and feel it is too low don't ignore a perspective "buyer"(thats what your trying to do...sell the card) I would make a counter offer. if im trying to sell a card for 199 and a guy offers me 75 I would counter with 185 if thats where I felt comfortable shaving money off. It doesnt hurt to negotiate because in the end you only make a deal if your comfortable with it.

I just love the people that enable the Best Offer option, but only counter-offer with their BIN price. What's the point of BO!

I collect 1999 Ultra, 2002 Topps 206, 2003 Topps 205, A&G Minis, Andy Pettitte,
and Brett Gardner.

RE: Seller/Collector or Collector/ Seller
I feel you, I recently found a card that I need for my PC. Guy selling it is asking $100 for it, if it was a auction it wouldn't go for more than $20 tops.. probably $15-18 range.. I kindly offered $25 for it and he basically responded with a "F" off. LOL.. I was like well good luck selling it then! The card is a Bowman Chrome red refractor.. I bought the SuperFractor for $50.. no way I would pay double for a card when there are 4 more out there, they will show up eventually, they always do!!

RE: Seller/Collector or Collector/ Seller
I have had a lot of luck offering less money - even on regular auctions! I have gotten the "first bid" price lowered to a point I would be happy.

I have run into some crabs - but not too many!

This - I do believe - is my 500th post. Is that the "Member" break? Or do I remain a Jr. Member? I shall see right now...............
