and they do it with no padding. Did anyone see the Germany-Turkey game today where both players were busted open colliding heads trying to get the soccer ball? one guy wasn't too bad bleeding near his eye but the other had a gash in the back of his head that they pinched together and brought a stapler to close it up so he could get back on the field before halftime

I dont watch soccer, maybe if im bored by chance and i want to hear the song that goes "olay olay o lay" but they definitely take hits, we were playing soccer in gym class with a less hard ball and i went for a jump ball and colided with someone, than fell on the hard wood floor, that didnt fell to good, so i know if that wasnt good with a less physical atomosphere, than what can the full force soccer players do...

OP's Suggestion = even more pointless.

There is NO WAY that ESPN, which last time I checked isn't an "american" only station, should be playing NFL live over and over again instead of a major sporting event in the world. That's ridiculous.

If you are that obsessed with the NFL then get the NFL network...they'll be sure to overwhelm you with stories about Jason Taylor, Pac-Man and the rest.

Or a novel idea would be to try the internet. Plenty of pointless pre-season coverage on there as well.

It's not an American only station, that's why they have ESPN Deportes and all the other International ESPN stations. Other countries don't want to watch our sports just like we don't want to watch EURO SOCCER!!!

It's not just because I'm obsessed with the NFL, I just absoultly hate SOCCER as do most Americans.

or maybe not, you do realize that ESPN has had bigger ratings in EVERY soccer match for Euro 2008 compared to any of the ones they televised for MNF

It's one thing to debate, it's another thing to just flat out lie.

MNF Record low ratings in 2007 (meaning worst ratings ever)
-8.5 million viewers
http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6492388.html

Euro Champs
-half a million viewers
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?sect...id=3438061

Haha, what article were you reading that I missed?

I'm very surprised by how much support soccer is getting on a football board. When I was growing-up, especially in highschool and college, you were a fan of one or the other but not both. Interesting to see how things have changed in less than 10 years.

jdub16 Wrote:I'll start watching more soccer when they stop flopping and stop whinning. Seriously it's NON STOP flopping and whinning. Are all soccer players related to Vlade Divac by any chance?

The only one "whinning" to me is you. Soccer does not need you to watch it because people world wide watch it. Soccer is bigger than any sport because during Euro/World Cup people around the world come to cheer their country (Mine being Poland Sad ). No sport has as much dedicated fans. People like the OP gives the impression to many europeans, and most non-americans that Americans are ignorant stubborn people who will not appreciate anything non-america. Luckily for America there is a lot of intelligent people many posters here who can look outside the American sport box.

If you watch Basketball there is many divers.

UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said TV ratings for Germany were especially impressive and predicted the Netherlands' 3-0 win over Italy on Monday would bring similar results. About 23.7 million people watched the Germans beat Poland 2-0 on Sunday for an audience share of 69.6 percent.

Now I have read very few of the posts but I have a few things to say.
-I am no fan of soccer
-I would watch more Euro Cup but the announcers are boring and it is usually on when I goto offseason workouts. I actually enjoyed the World Cup alot
-Yes there are not as big of hits but it is more manly than baseball or basketball
-No they don't take hits that are as big as football (there currently is a problem in football about concussions you may have heard soccer has nothing like that. They seem to get more deep slashes, which do hurt.)
-I would absolutely love ESPN2 to show Cricket and Rugby over cup stacking and poker.
That is all

I would rather watch soccer (I'm a fan) than watered-down NFL news you can read about later instead of watching BSPN.

Soccer will just never gain momentum in this country. Its the perceived notion of having less control because you can't use your hands aside from keepers.
