Long OT: Some people have a real hole in their head (Football card related)
X months ago I purchased a box of 2009 Topps football cards from Target. I pulled one of them mini Allen & Ginter cards of Mark Sanchez. Not going to specifically quote Beckett prices, but it's not exactly worth a mint but it was enough for me to feel the need to send it in to BGS to get it graded/protected during a very attractive grading special.
It came back a 9, only 2 in the POP report. My girlfriend and I at random list stuff on Ebay to raise money for our Disney vacation fund. It's not a consistent thing, we usually only list when there are opportunities for free listings. I had decided that I wasn't specifically attached to Mark Sanchez, after all we're Saints fans, and listed it for $9.99, which I felt was a fair opening price for a BGS 9 insert rookie card. No bids. Relisted. No Bids. Relisted a 3rd time, NO BIDS! Then the email comes, "Hi you've listed this 3 times and no one has bidded. I'll give you 7 bucks, shipping included." I'm wary of them "outside of ebay deals" on top of 7 dollars wouldn't have even covered the cost of grading. $9.99 was the lowest possible price I was willing to take, so I did not respond. I decided, "heck with it, Sanchez is an ok kid, he can stick around in the PC." Then Ebay did another free listing offer about a week later. Keeping in mind this Ebay user was most likely on the look out for the card, I listed it for 19.99 just to see how bad she REALLY wanted it or if she shot me an offer I liked while the listing was still active, I could edit the listing with a Buy now price for her. Well no message but a different user bid the 19.99. Then she came back and bid, 20.51. The other guy outbid. She was the winning bidder at 22.50, plus shipping. Grossly over BV but I didn't force them to bid, and I hear a lot "a card is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay." I sent the card with DC and I know she has it, feedback has yet to be received. Now my bad- I also had the card listed on a fixed price site, with a 39.99 list price with a note that I'm VERY willing to negotiate. Well, it sold a few days after the ebay listing. To be fair, I forgot about the site because I never sell ANYTHING there! Well, I went in after I got the email, and realized...it's the same person! Same mailing address and everything. I became convinced this person was now following me around the internet since I use the same selling ID for both Ebay and the other site. And it's a graded card with the serial # posted. I reported the entire situation to the 2nd site and they dismissed my (probably) paranoid theory of internet stalking. I refunded her money saying "sorry, you've already purchased this card on ebay." Well, it's been almost 2 weeks since she originally got her package per the DC #, no feedback or contact from the buyer. Today I decided to check out her listings, on a hunch. She has the card listed. For $800.00, and a plea to send her all 2010 Topps boxes from Target. And she has my listing under it copied word for word with my posted POP report, my shipping fees, and my "extra items cost only ____ more." Had I added my usual listing salutation of "Help us raise money for Disney" I have no doubt she'd have that too. I dont know what your asking here, but there are tons of people who #1 dont leave feedback all the time, and #2 that buy and mark stuff up in stores. I tried it 3 years ago and never worked for me, but I can give you 6 different people who use 2 seperate accounts to buy and resell with. There are tons of people who bid on thousands of items of cheap mem and autos and then put in thier store at book value or higher. I sent ebay a message while back about it because it was annoying me being a collector of jimmie johnson. There are 3 people who buy up tons of jimmie stuff and relist it 3 weeks later. For me it sucks because they are jacking up prices for themselves during auctions just to make money and make cards go up $5 to make a $1. I dont think its mandatory that you have to leave feedback for every purchase? I could be wrong, but I dont think ebay will do anything about it if they dont leave feedback. You can always ask them and maybe they will send a message to the buyer asking to leave feedback? Is that what you are asking?

Ok I edited my above post to fix paragraph formatting issues and to delete the zeros and dollar signs but they seem to have stayed regardless.
Jimmie48Rules- thank you for your response! Feedback is not mandatory at all on Ebay. But it's really nice to leave considering I ship as soon as payment notice is in my box, I'll print the label and bring it straight to the post office the same day. And yes, people do mark ups all the time. But a mark up from $22 purchase to $800 is just silly. This person is trying to hype this card up as being more rare than Honus Wagner's T206 baseball card.My motive for starting this thread was because I was making an observational post about a very peculiar encounter with this person. "I'll give you 7 dollars for it" then pays 22, then lists for 800. EDITED TO FIX FORMATTING Seeking 2007 National Treasures Drew Brees Laundry Tag cards #'d to 10. I just got back from Disneyland. Hope you get to go soon and enjoy it. If you know someone in the military have them buy your tickets. They can help save you some money.

Y2Hood Wrote:"I'll give you 7 dollars for it" then pays 22, then lists for 800.$0 Sounds like my LCS owner...lol I recently came across on the Bay a card I traded a person. The card I recieved was probably 100 BV sold for considerably less. The one I traded was N/A BV, but I had previously purchased it for less than $70.... It's been on the bay at a Buy It Now of $699....lol Since I have another of the versions #'d to 10 maybe I should offer him my other at the bargain price of $500.... I'm sure this is a pretty common occurence from what I've seen over the years. If you want to trade, I need DC and a padded mailer at a minimum. Rarely do I collect or trade for anything other than Bengals/Jaguars and some Cowboys. http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/...0Football/ |

I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but what are you asking or venting?
I know many people including myself who check ebay and other auction sites for cards and purchase them.I myself have contacted sellers if they would be interested in lowering the price to sell their card if I have seen it up for sale for a while. When I buy cards off of beckett's shop. I contact sellers a lot and ask them if they will take so and so dollars. |

RE: Long OT: Some people have a real hole in their head (Football card related)
BUMP!!
So a few months have passed. In this time I decided I wanted to build this small set of 15 cards. Well as it turns out, even the most low end cards of the set have been going for WAY over BV on auction. The same user over and over keeps blowing up the prices. I've been monitoring all auctions for these cards and at one point a card listed in the $6-$8 range went for over 20 dollars with the winning bidder being the same person I had issue with in the original post in September 2010 (I've matched the Feedback with their auctions). So as I've been one by one getting these cards whenever I can catch them (usually at 2 in the morning when I'm working overnight) I've been contacting the seller of the card and asking, "Just wondering but has USER contacted you before or after the auction ended and tried making an off ebay deal?" Every single seller has answered in the affirmative, on BOTH equations. So yeah, apparently there's a pathological hoarder of these cards trying to artificially inflate the prices. (Also I suspect it's the same person coming on here an putting user submitted prices at outrageous levels...which I can't seem to find user submitted anymore anyway) Seeking 2007 National Treasures Drew Brees Laundry Tag cards #'d to 10. RE: Long OT: Some people have a real hole in their head (Football card related)
I guess its one of those people that feel like if they have every card made then they can make their own prices for them and then Beckett will have to up the BV to their asking price since they controll the market! Lol, which means they probably wont sell anything at all and be stuck with a bunch of cards!
