OT: My beef with the US Govt and certain spending.
So, I get a letter in the mail notifying me that I will be receiving a tax rebate stimulus check. Sweet....of course I knew this 4 months ago when I filed my taxes....

So, let me do the calculations (a solid guestimate):

Nearly 130 million people get the check, meaning 130 million letters went out....

price of first class postage - 42 cents (cost of paper and ink to print letter, eh, lets say 3 cents)

So, total of 45 cents per letter mailed (of course this isn't the rebate itself, just a letter telling me I'm getting my check by tomorrow)...

45 cents multiplied by 130 million = 58.5 million dollars!!!

couldn't that money have been spent a little more effectively somewhere else??? you know, because they'll be sending another letter w/ the check for about 45 cents again + the rebate itself...

So, approx $117 Million Dollars in postage and 'letters'!

sorry for the rant...

Goverment run system....It costs them only the cost of the paper and transit not the actual postage.

But still a waste I agree.

they may not fork over the .42 themselves, but we pay for it. the post office isn't shipping these 130 million letters for free.

and remember, the government doesn't pay for anything. they don't have a bank acct. they have us. we pay for it.

and so, i would stand by my statement that it is over 100 million of OUR dollars wasted.

If you don't want the second letter, pass it along to me. I will send you the .42 cents in postage. I will actually up it to .50 for your trouble.

So then who pays for it if we don't? The USPS is a government entity, but it is run as a separate business, ugameck is correct, we pay for it.

I'd love to know the actual cost and if there would be a more efficent way of getting the refunds out. I'm guessing this would require a study costing another million though.

So, they are sending US money but were mad that they spent money to send us money? Believe it or not, it helped us USPS workers as it brought mail volume back up, helps us keep our jobs. They sent us 300-600+ but we gotta find another reason to be mad at them:lol:
