Rocketman12 Wrote:I like Wes Welker, but there's no way I could rank him above Torry Holt. Holt has put up 8 straight years similar to, or better than, what Welker did last season; and Holt faces double coverage that Welker never sees because of Moss. I like Wes too, likewise, career-wise Holt is the obvious. Top 50 ...yeah sure. |

A CURRENT list involves leaps of faith and projection, not looking to the past to see what players did. Otherwise, we'd have an all-decade team list, now a who's who of today list. Really? So, youre saying that Torry Holt is not on the list because some dbag decided his skills are tarnished and therefore Welker( who really shouldnt be on this list and we all know why) is obviously the better receiver? Isnt what a player did in the past make him the player he is today in the NFL? For example, Tim Couch, horrible QB, is now watching football on the tube. I WILL TAKE TORRY HOLT OVER WES WELKER ANYDAY OF THE WEEK. You must not know what kind of catches Torry Holt has made through his career, thus bringing him to the top mentions of the better WR's in the league. Wes Welker was a byproduct of the system this season. Everyone saw and they know it. Brandon Stokely had a similar season when he was with the Colts, I dont remember seeing his name on any TOP 50 Lists. You emphasize the past very much in your statements. The past is last year and the year before and the year before that, that is why it is called the past. I understand what youre trying to get across, so no need for any rebuttal. |

How can I form a rebuttal with sound arguments like "some dbag?" You didn't say before that you STILL think Holt is the better player today, you said he accomplished more over the years. Well for one, he's played many many more seasons, so of course he has. But if you wanna add to your argument, that's fine... Bound hit it right on the head when he said you need to recognize that a player's situation plays into their strength as a player. For example, if Randy Moss was on a garbage team, he might not play well... but he's not. Welker as a #2 in New England is in a much better situation than Holt as the #1 in St. Louis. A "byproduct" that can get his team key plays is better to me than a superstar that gets nice stats, but doesn't elevate his team to playoff contention. Which is really more important a player when you consider that? What you do in the past shapes your career's reputation, but its no guarantee that you'll perform at that same level eternally. |

I have to agree, Holt is one of the best wide recievers in the NFL, and Welker isn't even close to him. Welker has the luxury that he played alongside Moss and Stallworth this year, this saw a lot of single coverage, or was left open because teams were too busy trying to contain Moss. If you put Welker in Holt's shoes, he wouldn't even come close to the season he had. |
