What We Like: Love the 260-card base set, especially the 25 retired legends. The artistic look really sets Turkey Red apart. The base variations make a nice chase element.

What We Don't Like: Some of the cards are really dark, making it tough to see the player image. The Cabinet box topper cards are OK, but different photos or designs would have been nice to set them apart from the regular base cards.

Final Analysis: Turkey Red was a tobacco product in the early 1900s that included baseball picture cards. Topps brought the name and style back to baseball two years ago and it also has had success in football.

It's the artistic, old-school look that makes Turkey Red appealing. The 260-card base set is one of the largest we'll see in 2006-07. The best thing we like about the product is the 25-card retired legends subset, which includes Bird, Wilt, Russell, Pistol Pete, Bob Cousy and others. We pulled three different Shaq cards and each one pictures the Diesel shooting a free-throw…greatness!

Like the baseball and football sets before it, the hoops base set has background variations for some cards. Some of the backgrounds, which include playground courts, are little too dark, making the player image difficult to see.

Each pack includes a parallel, and Rookie Cards fall about one per pack. Topps Turkey Red is a great product for the set collector and old-school enthusiast.
