RE: 2011 Bowman Draft 10 Case Break and Contest Thread [CONTESTS CLOSED]
Case #10, Box #11
Blue /499: Kevin Whelan
Gold refractor /50: Anthony Bass
Auto: Trevor Bauer
Refractor USA auto /199: Nick Ciuffo
Grade: A
Comments: Nice box. Not the stand up and shout kind of box I was hoping for, but I’ll take it. How about one more like this to finish the break? Trevor Bauer sneaked to the top of the leaderboard with just one box remaining. But because nobody picked him, the tiebreak comes into play and natejeffries is still the man of the moment. Considering the likelihood this next auto is a parallel it looks to me like nj’s contest to lose right now. Good luck!

Case #10, Box #12
Blue /499: Jeffrey Soptic
Refractor auto /500: Trevor Bauer
Grade: A-
Comments: Well, I asked for a box like the previous one, and I got it! Not a bad finish. Bauer wins!

Case #10 Summary
Grade: D+
Comments: I had three boxes with good value, but none were of high enough value to counterweight the duds. You really need some huge hits eventually to get adequate return on the outlay. The two Bauers in the final two boxes – a base and a refractor – were the biggest hits of the case.
10 Case Break Summary
Grade: C
Comments: Overall I got what I paid for, though it was spread out pretty variably across the cases. I had an A case, a B case, a B- case, 3 Cs, one C-, two D+s and one D. The two best cases were characterized by purple refractor autos, but if I hadn’t hit them I’d probably still conclude that this was an average break overall. I paid $51 per box delivered, and I think the value per box is currently right around $52. If the price ever drops below $48 I would consider this product a *must buy*; there are plenty of minor hits and there’s plenty of potential for giant scores. Conversely, I don’t think anyone should pay more than $57 for a box. I think you’re safer buying a box from an unopened case, as there is substantial negative correlation between boxes within a case.
Contests: Congratulations to natejeffries, the winner of my $60 shopping spree contest. Although nobody picked Trevor Bauer as the most frequently appearing base auto, nj had a very good prediction for last week’s Denver-New England game. You may give thanks unto Lord Tebow for your victory, nate. I’ll PM you with details for your spree. Anti-congratulations to kelbysdaddy, whose pick, Blake Snell did not appear at all as a base auto within the last six cases. For his ineptitude, he wins a Medium Priority Mail box stuffed with early 1990s wax. The three BCW-550 boxes in which they are lovingly housed are worth 10 times more than the cards. Well done, sir! I’ll PM you to get your address – no dodging me! Finally, repeated congratulations to telattt, who FINALLY gets to pick out his five autos from the break. I’ll PM you with your options.
Thanks, everyone, for stopping by with the words of encouragement. I hope it was interesting. I plan on busting some 2011 Sterling at some point, but I haven’t decided when. Definitely need to do some sorting and cleaning before I can even think about it. Enjoy the playoffs!
